Doggie Adoptus Interruptus. We were all set to adopt a little brother for Zippy today, when we heard from the foster parents... who've decided to keep him. [More:]
OMG such a sweet and adorable little pup! His name is Rocket, and he's a Border/Norfolk terrier mix, and he and Zippy got along like gangbusters. But his foster parents had fallen in love with him over the past week or so, and realized after we were there with Zippy that they just couldn't give him up. (We would have seen Rocket sooner -- and probably gotten him before they attached to him! -- except that scodyboy was out of town last week, and so yesterday was our first chance... by which Rocket had already zoomed his way into their hearts.)

Totally understandable, but I'm still disappointed. I can't even bear to link to the pictures of his fuzzy little face for everyone to see... it will make me too sad.
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that!

We adopted a cat from the no-kill shelter a few weeks ago in something of an opposite situation. The brother-in-law had been twittering about a young cat hanging around their house, getting trapped in trees, &c. When I went over for dinner a couple of times, the little guy was very friendly. I was all set to give him a home, when the neighbor girls came out, asked if he was mine, and said they were going to adopt him at the end of the week if an owner didn't show up. So, I went to PAWS instead and got a juvenile cat.

Of course, when I was over there again this week, come to find out, that little guy is still living on the streets. But I can't take him in! I may have to take him to PAWS, where he will get neutered, get shots, and if he isn't adopted, where he will be fostered.

Oh, scody, I'm sorry to hear about that. What a disappointment.

Crush- can't you adopt the little guy anyway? Please?

All of my cats just showed up, but our dog was a pound puppy. I still have the image of an adult dog I really wanted; the husband and kids wanted a puppy. I hope she got a good home.

I've been consoling myself with thoughts of all the wonderful little terriers on petfinder. Like Scooby (who would go well with Scody!)! Or Brenner! OMG MUST SNUGGLE!

Aww. Sorry. This type of thing happens a lot. It kind of renews my faith in humans, though, hearing how attached you'd become before even adopting. I'm sure the right doggie will work out for you.

Of course, I have two fosters up for adoption, if you or anyone you know is looking. They're GREAT pups, but so far they're a package deal (inseparable), and they need plenty of room to run. And when I find a good home for them, I won't be able to change my mind and keep them unless I win the lottery and buy a house. I'll just miss them.

aargh! I was terribly afraid that this is what was going to happen with my Sky, because the process just took so long... I ended up with the distinct feeling that I was being obstructed, perhaps with the idea that "well, if they really want her, they will hang in there and be persistent. Otherwise, she stays with me."

After finally meeting the foster mom, I'm pretty sure this is the case - though she has too many fosters for either her landlord or even the rescue organization to sanction. They've both forbidden her to pick up any more, until she vastly reduces the number she has. But since she picked up two small pups on her way to bring Sky to me, I have a feeling this is a bit of a lost cause. Sweet, sweet woman though.

It did throw things off some for me, though. If I could have gotten her within seven days of telling them we wanted her, she would have been here while mr. taz had a week off, which would have been optimum. If we had gotten her within two weeks of the notice, at least he would have been here, though not home much. Instead, it was a month, and she came while he is out of town... and I wanted her to be with us as long as possible before we (all, together) go on an island holiday that will happen at some point when V. gets back. And I need to fit in a serious visit to the dog groomers, and her visit to my Vet, while trying to freak her out as little as possible. So the delay totally fuxored with my well-laid plans.

But until the moment she entered the front door, I was really thinking it wasn't going to happen at all, so I can empathize so much, Scody. I'm sorry.
