Advice Filter: Diabetes - Any super-sweet buns use Byetta or Lantus?[More:]

I've recently found that I can't effectively control my blood sugar with diet, exercise, and meds. So, my Dr wants me to start injection(s). On the table are Byetta and Lantus.

I am trying to decide which to take but each has its' own advantages. Has anybun had experience with either or both?

I have no advice, monkeybutter. I don't know a whole lot about Byetta. I have administered Lantus many times, but couldn't recommend or discourage. What are you leaning toward? What does your doctor think?
Good luck, monkeybutter. I know it can be somewhat of a shock and a little stressful to go on insulin. Good control is the ultimate of importance. It's good that you are taking control of the situation.

Thanks L. My Dr doesn't have a preference, yet. He wants me to go read all I can about both befor I see him again Friday. They both seem to have good and bad. Right now I'm leaning toward Lantus simply because it is only $40 with insurance. That and it is only taken once a day. The Byetta is over $200 with insurance, but it helps kill the constant hunger AND helps with weight loss.

My preference will likely change many times between now and my next Dr meeting.

I just started on Humulin, but I'm sure that this question will come up for me in the not too distant future.

Hmm, I'll have to look into Humilin, and other insulin analogs, too.
