I Live in the Nostalgia Capital of the United States →[More:]There's going to be a "Blues Fest" next weekend in Avila Beach (a place with no possible connection to The Blues, trust me), featuring Little Richard (75 and still reportedly rocking), Elvin Bishop (WITHOUT the guy who sang on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love") and What's Left of Canned Heat (only original member still touring: the drummer).
Then on June 10, Crosby Still and Nash but NOT Young play a charity concert in Avila, introduced by Peter Fonda.
The San Luis Obispo County Fair cleverly disguised as "The California Mid-State Fair" does its second year of sincerely seeking out big music acts who aren't all Country. Last year they made money off Aerosmith and Bob Dylan and this year (tween July 23 and August 3) the line-up includes John Mayer (urk), Steely Fucking Dan!, Stone Temple Pilots, Matchbox 20 (for your 1990s nostalgia), Rod Stewart with special guest Bryan Adams, Boz Scaggs (personal connection thru 1970s radio days - will explain later), for the inevitable country fans, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and Sawyer Brown (combo ticket with a rodeo), and on the 'free with fair admission' stage: The Spinners, Grand funk Railroad, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, OZOMATLI?! and American Non-Idol Bo Bice (last year Daugherty was on the pay stage; sorry Bo).
But before all that, a County Supervisor running for re-election will have a $250/plate dinner with special guest ... Bo Derek (sorry again, Bo Bice)
Nobody ever goes away; they just go to San Luis Obispo...
