Is the internet wonky? I can't reach google, gmail or youtube. I can't reach memset.com nor my own server (gaah!). What's going on?[More:] Can anyone here reach the above mentioned (and my own server would be dabitch.net commercial-archive.com or sinless.org). I can't email any of my pals to check if they're seeing the same thing since my "backup mail" is in gmail. Now I'm worried that my server might be crashed and I can't even see that. Hilfe!
(I've had weird google-less days before, recently - where I could only traceroute google as far as to Denmark, making the big internet connect pipe down there a major suspect. It used to be called "the tuborg bottleneck" because of a stupid way of routing traffic through there but you'd think they might have changed things since 1994)

They're all coming up fine (and quickly) for me. I had severe bottleneck-y problems a few days ago, though; maybe the clogs are moving eastward!

i've been having problems like never before in recent memory. Gmail has been flat out weird.

Or maybe the clogs are migrating back to Holland, and some electromagnetic disturbance pulled them too far north.

There are many possibilities for the movement of the clogs.

hm, and I just read some doomsday report on a blog about AT&T predicting "the end of the internet" due to volume / bandwidth constraints or whatever... naturally they blamed Youtube for being a bandwidth hog: EVERYBODY PANIC YOUTUBE IS KILLING TEH INTARWEBS!!!!!

not helpful, I know. For what it's worth I'm not experiencing any troubles.

ah *pheeeew* - I would hate it if the server was down and there was nothing I could do. Thanks! Although I'm still hating it as I had a list of "to do" things after baby sleep-time and now I can't do them. arrrgghH!

Ahahahaheheh, clogs.

Electromagnetic fields due to sunspots?

Stupid tuborg bottleneck.

That's a really funny doomsday prediction. Internet death by navelgazing (and filming it).

No problem here either, so it seems like, yeah - the Tuborg bottleneck.

You know, it is at times like these that I miss having my servers wall to wall with my bedroom. I don't miss the noise one bit though.

Magnetic clogs.

The bottleneck is gone! Methinks someone with magnetic clogs tripped over the powercord.

Oh, for future refernce though, is there anywhere on the web that one can check the "connectivity" of the nets majors hubs to see if anything is down?
posted by dabitch 07 May | 17:26
There should be a site that tells you if it's everyone or just you.

I've had some weird issues today, but solved them by restarting Firefox.

i, too, was thinking it was the last (yet another) firefox update in part but my assorted problems have all gone away as far as i could tell this afternoon.

I got so desperate I restarted my router! But yes indeed, there should be a "it's not just you" doo-dah. Perhaps as a widget you could check on your cellphone.
