Lemon curd I haven't had lemon curd since I was a kid, except for[More:] bowl scrapings from the batch I just made today, out of Meyer lemons right off the tree.

My lemon curd is lined up in four tiny little jars in the refrigerator. I'm inordinately pleased.
So jealous.

My favorite grocery store in Austin would regularly hand out samples of one brand of lemon curd. They served it on shortbread cookies. I highly recommend this combination.

To mudpuppie's shortbread recommendation, I will say OH HELL YES. My bakery-owning sister makes little lemon curd tartlets on sweet pastry. NOM NOM NOM I WILL KNOCK YOU DOWN TO GET THESE.

I have a jar of homemade lemon curd unopened in my fridge. My (other) sister sent it from Montana. It has a little note on it in her careful handwriting: "keep refrigerated."

Did I mention: she sent it from Montana. Like, by mail. Unrefrigerated.

Am I really going to eat this stuff?

I haven't tossed it yet because, y'know, yum! Lemon curd! And on the other hand... well... "keep refrigerated"!

hmmmm... they make lavender sugar... I'm thinking I'd like to use that in lemon curd.

Congrats on the curd! Mmmm I'm salivating thinking of it.

Elsa, when did she mail it? Because maybe if she sent it in the middle of winter it'd be all right.

Or...maybe not.

Yeah, it was Christmas, but, uh...

Also, it arrived at my mother's house, no doubt stuck all over with warnings to keep it cold, but Mom is notoriously careless about food safety and, you know, listening to people. So it probably sat around for a few days on the kitchen counter before she refrigerated it.

I think I'll toss it, make a fresh batch, and tell my sister how much I loooooooved her lemon curd.

It's funny: I've been warning myself that it's probably too risky to eat for a long time now, but having you warn me is much more effective.

on an unrelated note, ohgodwhyamistillup? It's too late for someone as old and tired as I am to be awake. I'm this close to finishing my last paper for the semester... if I don't fall over first, which is looking increasingly likely. G'night, then.

Lemon curd is the only reason I'd get a pressure canner, but it's a damned good one.

Elsa, if nothing else, eating bad (egg-laden) lemon curd will make you wish for sleep like you've never wished for anything else...except perhaps death. I'm just guessing, but.

Lemon party! I love lemon curd, it's been ages since I've had any. Lemon meringue pie is an awesome thing, too.

My mom used to make lemon curd. LOOOVE the stuff. And it's really good on gingerbread, too. Shortbread sounds good, but GINGERBREAD. YUM.

Also: the lavender sugar thingie gave me an idea -- how about eating the lemon curd with lavender shortbread?

Once in a while I'll buy a jar from the local Safeway and eat the whole thing with nothing but a spoon. *bliss*

With your frequent invocations of lemon curd, shortbread, and lavender, y'all appear to have worked some rough magic in my life: today on my first full day of freedom from school and other obligations, I offered to help out my bakery-owning sister with some of her less involved tasks.

Today, I'm going in to box up 400 lemon curd tartlets, after first putting a lavender garnish on each one.
