Yes, it's true about the Greek thing. Showjumper Pippa Funnell (which you have to admit is just kind of a funny name combo anyway) was called "Phillipa" when she competed in the Olympics here.

Also, Charlton Heston was/is known as Charlton "Easton" here, because "Heston" sounds like "shit on him".
