anyone else doing a Derby Day party? →[More:]

In honour of BoP's recent Secretariat thread, I thought I'd see who else here is going to a Derby party, or otherwise planning a weekend blowout?

We're not much the 'organised sports party' types ourselves (hell we rarely watch TV), but the mister's bit of a horse nut, and I grew up with the critters, plus there's a coincidental convergence of friend units in the area as well. Derby Day seemed good as anything for a party theme.

We were scoping out our bets with our nice neighbors today. Then the other nice neighbor came over and we were all talking horses. My neighbor has the plan of hitting the Superfecta and not working for a year. ;-)

I would love to have a neighborhood Derby party, complete with hats (I don't have a fancy hat, but I can get one!) and mint juleps! I don't think it's going to happen though. We all work during the race. Husband runs home to make it, neighbors are off to their band job. Maybe I'll make it festive for the kids and husband. I'll have to cook up some Burgoo!

No Derby party here, because today's my fiance's birthday and I'm throwing him a party tonight. So I've got the day off work because the house is a disaster and I've ambitiously planned to make lots of hot appetizers plus strawberry rhubarb birthday pie (2 of them, to make sure everyone gets a slice).

If all goes well, we'll be too hungover for Derby partyin'.
