Springtime for Anne Frank: "A controversial new musical telling the life story of Anne Frank opens in Madrid later this month." Sounds awful.
It can't be worse than the version of The Diary of Anne Frank starring Pia Zadora, in which people in the audience started yelling, "she's in the attic."
You remind me of my high school's production of "The Diary" when I was in 9th grade. As a dress rehearsal for the cast they arranged for the entire school to see it. There were many students who were less than interested and it was full of gaffes and rough spots. Along came the scene where the unrelated guy (I forget his name) wakes up in the night, terribly hungry. All is quiet. He creeps downstairs, heads for the kitchen, finds a potato that should have been saved for everyone's food, and hides it under his shirt, ready to sneak back to his room. We watched this tiptoed scene in hushed, tolerant boredom, when from a row in the audience some sarcastic person called out with a shocking loudness "WAKE UP Y'ALL, HE STEALING SOME FOOD"
Location humor (as in, you probably had to be there) but it is one of my favorite moments of all theatrical experiences.
