Woo-Hoo! [More:] I'm about 20 pages in and it is excellent. In the past week I've also managed to acquire unread stuff by Tim Sandlin, Chuck Klosterman and Kem Nunn. All my main men have stuff out. Cool. Also, In a box of books I found a backgammon set. I've always wanted to learn to play. Unfortunately, I forgot to take it home. Maybe, it'll still be where I left it in the morning.
Wow. I find his stuff heartbreaking. But maybe I'll give it another whirl...

black8, did you ever read Ladies Man? That's his money book, although so far this one's giving it a run for it's money.

I know you love Ladies Man, jon, but I think that Clockers, and Freedomland, are both stronger novels (though they're both kinda heartbreaking).

The latter two are both great, too. This one so far seems to be a melding of his pre- and post-Hollywood styles. It's been getting lots of good notices. (you might like the aforementioned Tim Sandlin, too. Start with Skipped Parts volume one of the GroVont trilogy. Hilarious and touching.

At risk of coming off as illiterate:

Backgammon rocks. Grab that, and learn it.

I didn't read Ladies Man. I've got a couple of freshly purchased novels to get through, plus the one I'm halfway done with. Then I'll be back! I look forward to the discussion!
