What WepApp Would a Woodchuck Dev? I am looking for ideas for a new website.[More:]
I am learning Django, and in the middle of developing 2 for-pay applications, and feel a need to stretch my wings a bit. Plus, Santiago is dead in February so I have a bit of time on my hands.
I would like to create a new, cool site, mostly for the fun of it and as a way to develop my developer skills, put my name out there, etc.
I have an idea for an improved 2.0-ey film listing site for Santiago (my hometown) as all the existing ones suck (say, web 0.1 at best). Not sure if this is the sexiest possible idea, though.
So, any ideas for a database-driven website you think it would be worth spending a few weeks tinkering on? The next facebook, maybe?

Some guidelines:

0) I'd like to create something interesting, get some visibility, maybe make some cash off of ads or something. Ideally, sell it for a million bucks at some point.

1) I'm in Chile, which could be seen as a problem (far away from everything, small country) or an opportunity (web sites here are still like circa 1997). The site wouldn't have to be circumscribed to Chile or Latin America, but it could be. It could be in English or Spanish or both.

2) Not looking to save the world, help any good causes, feed anybody, etc. The site doesn't necessarily have to be evil, but if it is, what the hey.

3) It would start out as a strictly one-man enterprise (with my wife to critique and proof read, natch).

Any acted-on ideas will be credited in the final site, of course.

bit I CAN'T so just drop it, OK?"

arite, that said, I've seen a few Argentinian websites and they all
suxxoreed. I only see ad-sites when they are in odd languages I don't speak though, so they were all related to advertising.

I'd like a combo Google-map, findory thing where I could type in the name of the movie that I want to see, and my zip code (or rather Argentinian equal) and get a listing of where I get to see that film.

When I don't know what to watch, I want to be able to l type in what I fancy and get suggestions.

What about if I log in and give a movie-seeing history, could you tell me which films I might fancy in the future?

Hey, how about when I log in, I get to review the film, and the cinema (having these two saved separately so that future users can check the film and cinema reviews separately)

Make it all fancy CSS and table-less. :)

Oh, by "cinema" I mean "movie theatre" - yaknow, how the seats and popcorn is.

Oh and you should be able to rate theatres by beauty, I love pretty movie theatres and will in fact go to a pretty one specifically just because it is. So maybe start by adding all the theaters in a table by themselves where we can attach ratings of beauty and info like films to that. And then popcorn and soda ratings. And price ratings! And which films are there! And how far it is from meee, the logged in user.

I'm talking too much again aren't I?

dabitch: Nice idea, and kudos for the enthusiasm, but why Argentina?
