Is anyone else watching the Grammys? [More:]Tina Turner is what..60 something? Damn, woman.
Good lord, I just looked it up on Wikipedia. She was born in 1939!!! Holy crap.

I tuned in just in time for that -- she's absolutely unfuckingbelievable. Sure, I want to watch Amy Winehouse's performance also, but Tina totally made this worth it for me.

I'm watching Masterpiece Theater's Jane Austen series. Pride and Prejudice. Colin Firth...

No.

We just watched three episodes of "The Addams Family" on DVD.

I [heart] Tina Turner, though.

She freaked me out with her amazingness. I'm pretty sure she had some work done on her face, but her whole body was lineless, flawless. And she's spinning and dancing like a crazy person at an age when most people are buying condos in retirement communities and anticipating great grandchildren.

Keely Smith and Kid Rock? Violation of the Geneva Code and multiple human rights accords.

Yeah, I'm watching it.

I liked those Tron-looking dudes who played with Kanye (Was one of them A-Trak? Very possibly).

Also, I want to see Kid Rock singing with Frank Sinatra.

Aw man, Roy Scheider died. :-( Jaws is one of my favorite movies ever.

Max Roach, too.

I'm not watching- I totally forgot it was tonight, and do you know who reminded me? Andrea McArdle. She got onstage at Feinstein's for her cabaret show and gushed that she was so happy we were there, even though the Grammy's were on tonight. And I'm like, oh, huh, who knew.

Here comes the Winehouse.

Andrea McArdle! Philadelphia's own Annie!

Oh Winehouse, shut up about your Blake.

This John Fogerty/Jerry Lee Lewis/Little Richard thing is pretty bizarre.

Hey, Jim Dale and Barack Obama won the spoken-word awards, for Harry Potter and Audacity of Hope. Awesome!

We've had it going in the background. Tina Turner is just amazing. When Kanya West first came on, I went in the living room, thinking "Daft Punk is on the Grammy's? "

Fogerty, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis are on now. And yeah, box, it was very odd. (For Miss Lynnster... FOOGGGERTTYY!!)

Yay, Herbie Hancock! Unbelievable!
posted by box 10 February | 23:28
OMG...Herbie Hancock? Oh, Grammys. You just proved how truly irrelevant you are.
posted by jrossi4r 10 February | 23:29
Yay, Herbie! He's the New York Giants of the Grammys! Yes we can!
posted by box 10 February | 23:31
I begrudge him not. But it reminds me of the time Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for best Hard Rock record.
posted by jrossi4r 10 February | 23:34
Oh, yeah, no doubt.

But I'm a big fan of both Herbie Hancock and Joni Mitchell (though I don't like his Joni record nearly as much as I like his Gershwin record), and so I'm thrilled to see him, and happy to see him win something, even if it's Best Rap Single or whatever.

It seems like there was a lot of old-fogey stuff this year, even by Grammy standards.
posted by box 10 February | 23:40
Of course, considering that my favorite part of the show was 'Rhapsody in Blue,' I might be an old fogey myself.

And I'm a big fan of Hancock's career, but River isn't even the jazz album of the year. Given the average age of the Grammy voters, I suspect that the Herbie award was, what do you call that, jury nullification.

Andrea McArdle! Philadelphia's own Annie!

She did a shoutout to Philly in the show! She has not forgotten her roots!

Harry Potter and the Audacity of Hope? Did J.K. Rowling write another book and not tell anyone?

The Grammys always bore me. I started watching, then went to bed.
posted by danf 11 February | 10:38
I didn't know it was on until seeing this post. I used to be fanatical about watching the Grammys and Oscars and I haven't watched either award show in years. I wonder what happened.
