Post 98: So, whattaya up to tonight? It's a pretty quiet Saturday night around here.[More:]Right now, I'm on the lower bunk as Sophie falls asleep on the upper bunk. We're relaxing to some Nick Drake, and next on Sophie's bedtime playlist is some Weakerthans.

Had some ciders last night, and I'm hoping to get out for a bit tomorrow night, so a quiet Saturday is alright by me.

What's Saturday night looking like? Oh, and I apoligize for my EST-centric question. If it's not Saturday night in your spot, what's up?
I just got home and every muscle in my body is sore after an incredibly busy day at the ranch. I have some bourbon, some beer, some stilton with apricots and some candy bars and half an 'Artery Clogger,' hero. I also have an urge to watch Rocky. When he yells out for Adrian at the end, I get all choked up.

Well, jon, it looks like we're the only mechazens home on a Saturday night. Your's sounds like a nice evening all around. I'm trolling guitar sites, trying to find a sweet hollow body for a friend. I've gotta break the news to her that she shouldn't spend all her money on a Gretsch re-issue when she's got a shitty amp. I'm thinking more along the lines of a Epiphone 335 copy, and a NICE amp.

Anyway, back to daydreaming about being able to afford vintage guitars. Hell, I'm still trying to master a friggin "F".

I had a perfectly lovely day of the most awesome yoga class ever (also attended by Mefite whir), followed by an hour of running errands, which included buying a bunch of reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaally good cheese and some pate and crackers and wine and I sat out back in my backyard eating and drinking all of that and watching the hummingbirds and enjoying the sunshine and warmth and reading Yoga Journal, which is like the women's magazine for happy-hippy folk, and now I'm settling in for a relaxing evening of not much at all, because I feel calm and well-fed and happy and generally good.

Oh! And the church bells just started ringing. Oh how I love church bells. A perfect end to a perfectly lovely day.

wendell, I'm watching Rocky. You know better than interrupt a man during a spiritual moment.

(seriously, that movie kill me on so many levels and I'll start blubbering near the end, but you kids have fun)

Well, we went to our caucus (which was overwhelmingly for Obama, to the surprise of almost no one), had a late lunch, and took the dog out. I've just watched Calgary cleaning Edmonton's clock (to the surprise of almost no one) and am waiting for the Vancouver - Colorado game to start. Science Girl is cooking dinner, and I'm now being drafted to prep the haricots verts. Gotta go.

Slept in a little, then did some cleaning up at LT's place where there were a bunch of big cardboard boxes. We took all that to the dump, then headed out to Cosmic Bowl at Bowl-O-Rama! We played in the arcade, ate some spicy pizza, and bowled three games of candlepin. It was fun, and a good way to fight the oppressive cabin fever and seasonal bummed-out-ness I've been feeling all week.

Then I dropped him off so he could obsessively watch MSNBC primary and caucus returns, and I came home and have been having some quiet time. I've been uploading a bunch of auctions to eBay, things I am letting go from my house but think might be worth a bit of money to someone. I'm also listening to Nick Spitzer's American Routes and thinking about a glass of wine and a hot bath and maybe reading something printed, on a page. It's snowing. Again.

If I could pick any of the above days to live, I would pick occhi's. It sounds so non-wintry, so peaceful, so healthy, and so quiet. It sounds like sort of the opposite of pizza, beer, and bowling in New England, if you know what I mean. Though we have to work with what we've got...

Calgon, take me away!

The Manitoba Moose Canucks are already down 3-0 at the end of the first period. I may have to bail early on this one. Thankfully, I think dinner is just about ready.

Hee, Miko. I've definitely had similar days in Boston, but certainly not in February.

Also, I forgot to mention that I had a very nice phone conversation with my dad. Now I am making dinner, the broccoli raab pasta that ico posted the other night, except with broccolini; I am still sad my store had no broccoli raab. :-(

Oh, of course. It was that sitting-outside-sun-watching part that got me.

Yeah, I was rather thrilled it was possible today. It's been nasty and rainy for so long I forgot how much I like the outdoors.

1. I have sushi and also vodka, so that's that taken care of. mmm.

2. I've finally found the radio files that I'd lost when my harddrive died earlier on this year, and am working on re-assembling my World War 2 radio broadcast that I'd done a year ago on MeCha radio. It's a lot of work, but I may have part one ready for next weekend.

3. Downloading the latest Torchwood episodes, but they're not coming in proper order. I may have to watch them out of order, just because.
I've also realised I missed the first 3 episodes of Smallville, so I'll have to grab those as well.

4. Went to the dentist for what were basically preemptive fillings. He's super fast and really good at what he does, so the trip wasn't nightmarish (except for that burning-teeth smell. agh). Best part of the dentist? He's got all these cool high tech gadgets, which also include lasers! Woo!
Went to a bookstore afterwards, bought Gulag and Voices from Chernobyl. I want to read "Voices..." and I'm sure it'll be a depressing read, so I'm eyeing the book warily. Gulag I grabbed on a whim, relating to an obession I'm nurturing about mapping new/different moral pathways in unfamiliar and/or new environments/situations.

I got back a while ago from the Reagan Day Dinner. I got to meet and shake hands with !Elizabeth! Dole! She is a nice lady, also a tiny one...which is no surprise since it seems no one was really letting her eat anything but kept going up to the head table to talk to her. I on the other hand stayed at my table and was rewarded with her coming to see ME. Yay!

I was seated beside a very nice couple, both of whom were doctors. The wife was a very young looking pediatrician...when she told me she was in her early forties I almost passed out. She looked like a trophy wife of twenty-one.

Also met two different Republicans who are running for governor. (I'd met a third last year.) Plus a plethora-a plethora, I say, of various and sundry politicos.

We also had a charming group of older ladies, in red whit and blue hats and flag scarves and baggy blue dresses who not only sang the National Anthem but other various and sundry patriotic ditties. They were so cute. I bet they sing at nursing homes. I shoulda took a picture.

Now I am home, in my pj's, have had my one glass of wine for the evening, and am wishing I had the energy to crawl into bed. Thank God our church has a 12 o'clock service.

You want to hear about our thrilling Saturday night then, eh? Well, the minestrone you know about... then we watched teeeeeveeeee! Mythbusters (Whirlpool/Adam pukes and the Cursed Snow Plow), Top Gear (omg, Bugatti!), and America's Next Top model (sadly, they sent the smart one home and kept the mean one). All old episodes, of course, from the one station that imports this sort of reality programming from the U.S. and England. I was happy, though, because it's basically what I wanted to do - cocoon with soup. And we narrowly escaped visitors, which I really wasn't in the mood for. Then I read in bed. oohlala!

We just got home from our Saturday evening. A lovely party with lots of friends eating lots of food for Chinese New Year. Caught up with people I haven't seen for 3 or 4 months, made plans to hang out with some of them soon. Left the party to good Obama news. Yay!
