"Bin laden asks terrorists to boycott a new line of clothes." - that's all the email said, and I figured this is going to spread like mad so I wanted to show you the ad first. yes, it's a viral, I'd like to talk about the merits of using Bin Ladin in one. Crazy? Dumb?
Might still be edgy for an ad, but in general the idea of a spoof Bin Laden video has kinda been done to death.

I agree on that actually, it'll get worse too as these Dutch fireworks ads featuring terrorists which did run on telly, got lots and lots of extra attention on the web... So now all the copycats without TV budgets are gonna try and repeat the feat, I'm sure.

(I saw my first mention of Bin Ladin and Saddam in an Indian poster campaign for jeans back in October 2001, tagline "catch them if you can" set off a huge debate on one of my mailinglists and I don't think teh ads which were in production at the time ever saw the light of day. It's just every time I see any of this now I think of that Indian brand of jeans).

It was a little offensive, ... maybe? But not being either (a) Islamic, (b) a bin Laden supporter or (c) a zealous American patriot/Conservative Republican, I'm not too inclined to care.

All in all, maybe just dumb.
