*pfffffft*WOW. Obama is the next prez fer sure. Does anyone doubt all the other candidates are sunk, especially now that this video is out? I'm VERY cynical about ALL politicians, but even I nearly got teary-eyed watching it (which disturbs me.)
Nothing is "for sure" until the votes are counted in November. And I'm not convinced that internet buzz is good for much. But we shall see! The video is pretty cool.
Clinton is still winning in most polls although Obama is gaining. I'm actually still undecided but I'll be happy with either wining the nomination, I just hope that they don't beat each other up to much in the process.
1. Clinton narrowly wins primary as polls suggest
2. McCain wins primary, picks hard-right fundamentalist VP to appease party.
3. McCain beats Clinton due to sexism, revival of hate campaign, post-Bush hostility to political dynasties.
4. Elderly McCain dies in office
5. Hard right fundamentalist VP becomes president
TheophileEscargot, your prediction just made me shudder. Maybe McCain'll croak before the election - 9 months is a long time in the life of a 72 year old.
Even if Obama wins, I don't think it will change much. A little sure, but the cards and the system are stacked against anybody that tries to make desperately needed changes to the way America works. In order for serious change to come about, the entire system needs to come crashing down so that it can be built anew with the knowledge gained from our previous mistakes. People need to have their eyes opened and the hypocrisy and corporate thievery and servitude perpetrated by those elected and in charge needs to be exposed. The streets need to flow with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
In order for serious change to come about, the entire system needs to come crashing down individual citizens need to re-engage with the system at every level, local to national - running for office, staying informed, communicating with representatives, and educating themselves.
I hear you jrossi4r, I do, but I'm buying into it.
This sounds madcap or at least incorrect, but I don't know why I should force myself to ignore the Swimsuit Competion when Science (!) tells me that attractive people are viewed as more competent, etc., have an easier time at work and such. I think it would be a great thing for foreign relations and greasing wheels in congress.
I like the video, too. The first time I saw it, I didn't realize any of the people in it (other than Obama) were famous or recognizable in any way, so that probably helped.
that video demonstrates why the white-people-voting-for-Obama thing is the new white-kids-buying-a-shitload-of-rap-records thing -- white people are desperately deficient in cool, and Obama is selling cool the same way JFK did. Middle-aged, heavyset, wrinkly, unfunny, conservatively dressed Hillary Clinton -- she and her Middle-aged, heavyset, wrinkly, womanizing, has-been husband, with his racist attacks on Obama to boot -- can't compete for shit in the cool game with Obama.
This has of course zero to do with what either of them would do in the very unlikely case they can win the general election. But Obama is cool and Clinton isn't. The US market -- a certain segment of it -- is eerily susceptible to the appeal of cool.
There's no way anyone from the Republican Party will beat either Obama or Clinton in November.
I bet you 5 bucks McCain wins. Very easy vs Obama (not a landslide, but close), much closer vs Clinton.
Even if Obama wins, I don't think it will change much. A little sure, but the cards and the system are stacked against anybody that tries to make desperately needed changes to the way America works.
Absolutely totally exactly, and everything else you said too.
But I'm still hoping that a minority president will SOMEHOW change the direction of things, involve minorities and "fringe" elements and the disenfranchised more in the system and... I don't know. It just has to be a good thing, no? There have to be some good repercussions? Please? At least it means the race barrier is gone.
But regardless, IMO, that video could be the inverse/opposite of the "Dean Scream"* (which was edited by the media to remove much context, background noise, and basically everything that made the holler sound perfectly normal.) People are shallow and influenced by emotion, not logic.
I hate the video. Well, not hate, but it's beyond meh. It's just annoying -- the music and the speech are competing so often you can't really hear either.
It does seem to be going sorta viral, though, which I don't object to. I just wish it were better, somehow.
