Damn, my work just blocked YouTube and Google Video. *Shakes fist*→[More:]What the hell am I gonna do now?
You can get a portable version of Firefox that installs and runs on a memory stick. In my place of work I can use it to bypass my company's proxy but not the web filtering software for some reason. Luckily there isn't too much blocked for me as I'm special. If I wasn't, there'd be no YouTube, Flickr and a multitude of blogs that I do actually need to do my job.
I feel your pain. My workplace recently blocked, at a minimum, youtube, gmail, hotmail, and meebo (for chatting). My only work around is using the VPN which bypasses the proxy. Bastards.
It was all a ruse by HR to freak me out and make me think they're coming for me. And it worked, I actually did some work. Damn, and it's time I'll never get back. I don't know why those sites were getting blocked, but I am going to go ahead and get that portable Firefox thingy.
When my employer started blocking gmail and greader, that was the last straw. I tolerated the limited filtering of facebook and other more recreational sites, because I couldn't really justify breaking the rules to visit sites that impeded me from getting work done anyway. But when they blocked sites I actually use for work, that was the last straw. Now I tunnel all my http traffic over ssh.
