GO GIANTS! I shall be here for the game. GO GIANTS!
What game?

The Super Bowl, you communist.

I'll root for my hometown [Jersey] Giants but I won't bet on them. I just can't see them beating New England.

I still haven't recovered from the playoffs (Packers fan here - no gloating, por favor). I'm probably going to watch the Puppy Bowl instead.

I figure the Pats are gonna win, too, but no harm hoping for an upset.

The neighbor we used to have is a SF Giants fan.
She and I used to have a great time, since I am a Dodger fan. We are looking after their house, since they moved away but have not sold it yet.

So I am on the phone to my wife (she's in Tucson over the weekend) and she says something like "I'll bet Rena's excited this weekend."

"Why?"

"Because the Giants are in the Super Bowl."

OK now I have you riveted, another story. Once I am on the phone, and the tv's on with this or that pregame show. Don't even remember the sport. And when I get off the phone and come back in the room, she goes, "you're missing a great game!" Which was strange to hear from my sports-disinterested wife.

Turns out that they were showing a reel of the season's highlights, and she assumed that it was this great game, in which every play was highlight-quality.

I love moments like this. Makes me love her even more.

The New York FOOTBALL Giants.

I say that mainly because ikkyu says it every time he talks about the Giants (unless he's talking about the LA BASEBALL Giants, and it makes me giggle.

I wanted the Packers to get in, too, desjardins. I'm a Bears fan who loves Brett Favre. It's confusing and shameful. :-)

I kinda like the whole Greek drama aspect of little brother Eli trying to prove himself, but I gotta root for the Patriots. I was forced to watch too many games in which the Raiders wasted Randy Moss's talent not to root for him.

I remember when I watched the Packers-Giants playoffs game, there was only one Packers fan in the bar and He was from Bosnia (I've met him before, he digs blues music). When I looked at him funny, he said (for best results imagine thick Eastern European accent), "I hate Eli Manning. Iz piece of shit pussy."

I have to root for the Patriots also. It's only fair because husband is from NH and a huge Patriots fan. I'll cheer for the Giants on the inside. I always love an underdog.

I'll concentrate more on my seven-layer dip with homemade guacamole. What goes with seven-layer dip? I'm thinking beer and brownies with walnuts, maybe? :)

Please, people.

This isn't just one Super Bowl.

This is about perfection.

Perfection. That is what we should all be hoping to witness today.

What purpose would it serve for the Giants to add their names to the list of ultimately forgettable Super Bowl winners like the 2006 Steelers and the 2002 Buccaneers?

In the era of parity in the NFL, when none of this was supposed to be possible, we have the chance to witness a dynasty, and a perfect season.

We should all set aside our petty tribalistic loyalties, and come together in support and appreciation of true greatness.

The fact that I'm a lifelong Pats fan from Massachusetts is really not relevant to my point.

(also, it goes without saying that all five-borough MeChaZens are welcome to meet me at the bar)

I love those stories, danf.

(I'll be watching at a friend's house, and rooting for the Giants. How could you not? Brady's a pretty boy corporate shill and Moss is, even by the standard of NFL wide receivers, a self-centered jerk. And after Spygate, I'm not sure the Pats should even be playing in the postseason. But because of the excitement of 19-0, and because the Patriots are the new Cowboys, America's-Team-bullshit-and-officiating-bias-wise, the league's mostly just looking the other way. Say what you will about Rozelle, but he'd've taken more serious actions. When Alex Karras bet on NFL games in the '60s, he was suspended for a year and ordered to appear in Blazing Saddles and TV's Webster. Compared to that, the penalties against the Patriots look like a slap on the wrist. (Also, Belichick used to coach the Browns, and I like the Steelers, so fuck that guy.))

Eh, I don't have a dog in this race, but I don't think much of Manning, throwing a hissy after being drafted by the Chargers.

So for that reason alone I'll support the Patriots. Mostly I'll support the chili I'm making. mmmmm.

This is about perfection.

Yeah, but I'd prety much give my right pinkie finger to deny that cheating, egotistical sourpuss (Belichick) perfection.

Me too, dano, me totally too. GIANTS. yeah the patty patsy pats are going to win, but damn I hope the Giants show up. I'm watching mainly for the Thomas Petty show at the half.

Hey, this is the day they show all those great commercials!

And all I have to do to see them is to sit thru a football game!
posted by bunnyfire 03 February | 13:17
Dude, it's all about the ads.
posted by dabitch 03 February | 13:17
(.......and for the ad highlights I think Pepsi will generate one laugh with teh nodding ad, and one "aw, that's nice + laugh" for the deaf ad which is all goodwill for them. Coke isn't doing to well this game, with the Odd Couple republican and deocrat sharing a coke in Washington, kinda dull. Audi gets to braggy. I'm waiting for Fedex carrier pigeons and I hope that it's good. I've been sworn to secrecy on Sobe, and I want to see what on earth is going on with careerbuilder.com and Planters peanuts. Over and out.)

Pats will win, but the line is -12!!!!!!!!!!!!

BET THE GIANTS AND WIN SOME MONEY, PEOPLE!!! TWELVE POINTS IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOO HIGH!!!!

The last time they played? 38-35, Pats. Hmmm.

GO G-MEN!
posted by BitterOldPunk 03 February | 13:59
I'm not so much a Giants fan either, but DOWN WITH THE PATS.
posted by casarkos 03 February | 14:15
Agreed, BitterOldPunk. I'd take the points.

Giants must be the biggest 'dogs since the 2001 Pats.
posted by ibmcginty 03 February | 16:19
Go Giants indeed. At the beginning of the season I would have been happy with one game over five hundred and here they are in the Super Bowl. The season is already a success, but denying the Pats perfection would be sweet indeed. Nobody thought they were going to beat the Cowboys and there were few believers when they faced the Packers, so who knows? As for the 12 point line, boy I am glad I am not a bookie.
posted by caddis 03 February | 16:45
Go Giants. I dislike the Patriots, but only really because of Belichick. I'd really like to see the Pats go this far undefeated, only to be beaten in the end.
posted by redvixen 03 February | 16:46
So who won?
posted by Eideteker 03 February | 16:58
The Giants won the toss.

So much for 19-0. ;)

Wow. What a great game.
posted by octothorpe 03 February | 23:45
FedEx carrier pigeons was great. Sobe was mostly weird, especially since it's not the first time they've gone after the Vitamin Water market. And was this just a local thing, or did everybody see an Obama ad toward the end of the game?
posted by box 04 February | 08:42
The only commercials I liked were the Coke ones.
