Update on squid jerky... ...apparently they serve it with mayonnaise, for dipping.
To those who want to try Korean squid jerky. It's a pretty popular alcohol side dish/bar food as well as just regular snack food. Next time you have a beer, try some squid jerky with your peanuts. Mayo isn't necessary, but it does add a certain I don't know what to it.
I'm more of a plain squid jerky toasted over an open flame person myself. Depends on the squid jerky too. The kind I like is literally just a whole squid dried out like laundry, but there are processed versions that are shredded or processed and shredded then made into sheets version. Oh! and my favorite? Butter roasted squid jerky (I'm saying jerky because they're prepared, but it's not exactly "cooked" like calimari...) they serve at theaters. My friend and I were just discussing the other day that American theaters are sorely lacking in this department.
Octopus jerky is quite delicious as well. I used to be addicted to squid and a particular fish jerky (I think it was a variety of stingray...) as a kid. There's a whole world of aquatic jerkies for the taking!
I offered to find squid jerky for my daughter when she gets back from Korea but she said she's not THAT fond of it. Heh.
Apparently they have fed her eggs cooked in vinegar, which was okay with her. One thing is for sure,I know I now have another companion in adventurous eating!
A buddy of mine who's a cop in Hawaii sent me clam jerky a few years back. It was the nastiest thing I've ever eaten and that's saying something. Tasted like low tide on Lake Erie.
