B3 Organ Grinders What are some of your favorite bands/songs with prominent organ?[More:]
(Working on a mix and am looking for more ideas.)
Just Hammond B3?

Do you like soul-jazz? Because if you do, I could go on all goddamn day.

It doesn't have to be a hammond b3... i was just trying to be visually clever when i realized the connection with the previous post.

I am not sure about the soul-jazz (soul/jazz, for sure) but I'm willing to try.

Well, then, I'm a big fan of this, but I'm biased.

Stuff by the Slackers...

Also, "Gratitude" by the Beastie Boys (though they have some cool instrumentals with Organ on it too)...

Sampled organ ok? Cause if so, "Organ Donor" by DJ Shadow. He's got like a trillion remixes of that song, I like the original from the Preemptive Strike album.

A couple highly-regarded, classic B3 soul-jazz albums:
Jimmy Smith - Back at the Chicken Shack, Root Down
Jimmy McGriff - At the Apollo

A couple underrated and/or weird ones:
Lonnie Smith - Live at Club Mozambique, Think!
Brother Jack McDuff and Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Kirk's Work
Charles Earland - Dynamite Brothers OST

A Jamaican artist whose name I feel like throwing in:
Jackie Mittoo

A soul artist which ditto:
Booker T. Jones

A post I made a while ago which kinda relates to this topic:

Oops, looks like the one on Preemptive Strike is one of the remixes, called Extended Overhaul. I still like it better than the one on Endtroducing.

A guy whom I saw live, and who has played with EVERYONE it seems is Brian Auger. I can't recommend specific albums, but I bet box could. One of best I've seen. Jimmy Smith is awesome too.

Here's Brian Auger in 1969.

Cool. Thanks. Keep em coming if you've got em.

I promise to do a MeCha broadcast once completed.

I'm not up on organ identification, but I would think Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and Sugarloaf's "Green Eyed Lady" are, well, organic.

Chest Fever by The Band is the first song that I thought of.
posted by octothorpe 31 January | 18:03
Wow, yeah, Chest Fever. And, I would agree about Booker T and the MGs. Sadly, I have little new to offer.

Loads by the Charlatans (AKA Charlatans (UK)), but particularly the obvious "The Only One I Know"

Misskaz! Are you going to the show tomorrow?
