I have to disagree with them on point, though; the Jethro Tull album cover they picked isn't nearly as bad as this one:

Ack...that King Crimson one! I always found it so disturbing. Sad to know that the artist died so young.

Steely Dan are NOT prog-rock and I should know having a soft spot for a lot of prog rock. Not Rush obviously - they're ridiculous! Nothing quite tests a relationship like sticking "Supper's Ready" on the stereo.

From my collection:

Album as newspaper (The Four Seasons) Really dumb.

Album with cut-outs and spinning background. Dumb. (Led Zeppelin III)

I've always been amazed that this NSFW one could even be sold with this cover.
(Blind Faith)

Oh, wait. This one I like...

Tull did the newspaper thing, too, but I always thought theirs was hilarious.

The Four Seasons one is actually pretty funny too in places. I thought about posting an image big enough to read (there are several pages of it), but I thought the large images would just annoy people.

Good god I love bad album covers.
Also, why is progrock obsessed with naked and/or shirtless men?

To understand the 70s is to realize that Pet Rocks and Mood Rings actually had complementary utility.

Yes, I had a pair of 4" platforms.

(... and yes, I could dance in them.)

I for one am glad that by the time I was old enough to form memories that amount to more than grainy 3 second mpegs with no sound, the seventies were over.

I have to disagree with you on the Led Zeppelin III cover, Dark Forest. I think the uniform size of the collage items and the white background make for a nice elegant composition.

I do agree with you on that one with the naked loli holding the gold penis plane. What was the point of that?

I guess I fail on this one. I spaced out that it was prog-rock album covers. So none of my album covers apply. What little prog-rock I have, all have passable covers.

Nah, DarkForest, just because the article was about prog (even they didn't stick to it entirely, as oh pollo! pointed out), doesn't mean we have to limit ourselves to just prog. Bad album covers are just fun, period!

Also, DarkForest sounds like a good name for a prog band!

um, actually...
I didn't know about them until sometime after I chose this name and was stuck with it.

Heh heh... WTF is their logo? Is that supposed to be blades, or a snowflake, or what?

Their album covers look like definite contenders. I wish there were larger pics available.

Those spiky "blade" things look like they're meant to be fir trees. You know, like in a forest. A dark one.

Yay! I always used to hand Court of the Crimson King to people to roll up on. Their reactions never failed to amuse me. :D
