So, my daughter emails me from Korea, and she tells me kim chee is nasty. But she likes squid jerky.
Up till this time I had no idea squid jerky existed.
That is all.
I once invited an English friend over for dinner, and so I asked him if he had any food allergies or things he didn't eat.

He replied, "No, really, only jellied eel. I hate jellied eel."

I didn't need to know that existed. (Though squid jerky actually sounds pretty good.)

If it's made of meat, chances are people will make jerky out of it.

(I do suspect that jonmc not only has heard of it, but has TRIED it. )

Since I'm going to Korea next week, thanks for the... warning?

I don't like Kim Chee. Vegetables shouldn't be fizzy.

I like kim chee. Granted, not often and not a whole lot at once, but in small amounts occasionally as a relish kim chee is excellent. But take it in small doses: a good friend of mine once woke up in the middle of the night with tears streaming down her face because of the pungency of her sleeping husband's half jar of kim chee induced farts. Seriously. She said she couldn't go near him for two days.

I like squid too, so I'm pro the idea of squid jerky although the thought of taking something really chewy, like squid, and making something even chewier out of it is kinda counterintuitive. I bet you could chew on squid jerky for a long, long, long time. Forever, even.

It wasn't quite squid jerky jonmc ate.

Ack. The one time I was in Belgium I was so excited that we were going to get Belgian waffles for lunch! To my utter dismay, the group elected to go to a Vietnamese restaurant instead. The only thing I could recognize on the menu was chicken something. So I got that, and it came on a plate with some other unidentifiable things, one of which looked like a small pile of cole slaw. I took a bite of it and thought I was going to puke all over our table. I managed to get it down with a lot of water and tears afterward, but it cured me of kim chee, that's for DAMN sure.

Squid jerky must be addictive or something. I can't stand it (and I eat just about anything) but friends of mine who are usually more culinarily conservative, eat it by the pound.

Kim chee seems to be a very broad category of Things Pickled. So some of it's spicy, some isn't, some tastes like sauer kraut and some tastes like rotting gym socks (but spicy!), etc.

Squid jerky is pretty good. It's pretty easy to find here in Oregon.

I'm betting I can find it here in Fayetteville-we have a respectably sized Korean population here.

I'm also betting there's no way in Hades I will ever persuade my husband to try it.

I've had squid jerky (and peanut-butter-flavored freshly-roasted squid) and many types of kimchee--there are a bunch of Asian mega-grocery stores in the DC area. A real treat is to go to a Korean barbecue place--you get a dozen little dishes of kimchees with your meal.

Well, with squid becoming the more prevalent source of protein in the ocean anymore, perhaps we should all develop a taste for it.

I for one welcome our new squiddy overlords

Squid jerky is yum. Goes well with beer (which is probably the reason for the existence of the majority of Asian snack foods).
