No, it's not Knut, it's the new little bear at Nuremberg Zoo who's now being hand-reared because of concerns for his well-being (click the video link to see why).
The case has triggered fresh debate about whether cubs rejected by their mothers should be saved or whether nature should be allowed to run its course.
That's a bit silly. First, they're at a zoo. Second, if any of the animals there became sick they certainly wouldn't let "nature run its course," they'd treat the animal. I don't see how this is any different.
Letting nature run its course at the zoo resulted in two of the cubs being eaten by their mother. The way the surviving cub was being thrown around by his mother, they had to intervene.
