So the dog hasn't peed tonight. [More:] Since her surgery and since she's on leash restriction, she's real finicky about her elimination.

Now it's OK to not poop every day - uncomfy, probably, but ok - but the dang dog has to pee twice a day, right? She never pees for the Husband, who is in bed anyway, and I am tired. I am ready for bed.

We have even taken to peeing in the yard to stimulate her dog peeing. (Yes, I have done this.) That didn't work tonight.

What should I do? Go to bed? Hang out half an hour and try again? (I know the answer, but I am frustrated and tired!) And the dog is very clean, she's never messed the house, so I'm half inclined to think she could hold it.
I have no advice for you except to do what you know is right. I do, however, have endless amounts of sympathy for you, as I am also the designated late night walker in my house, and am preparing to drag my tired ass outside as we speak. If it makes you feel at all better, here in Brooklyn, I have to walk my dog about six blocks on her late "short" walk.

Does she normally pee in the yard? If she's like our dog, she may see the yard as an extension of the house and not want to pee there. Can you walk her down the block a bit?

No walkies at this time of night in this neighborhood, bmarkey. She used to, in the yard, but not since leash-hood, she's reluctant, needs more stimulation.

She has put herself to bed, so I'll just trust the animal, what can you do?

If she wakes me up at four or five, I'm gonna punch her in her kidneys (of course not).

Bundle up, Lassie!

My cat just took a walk through a bowl of freshly mixed dipping sauce and i think she just went to anoint my bedding and pillows. Your dog would probably never do that, so, hey, it could be worse.

i really am not up to checking the bedroom right now.

In an ideal world, she should be fine. Gut instinct says that 95% of the time, if she needs to go, she'll go, and if she doesn't, she'll be okay for the short term.

So long as this is a temporary thing, about the worst you should be able to expect is a UTI or bladder infection, most of which can be taken care of with a few days worth of antibiotics and maybe some rhymadil (or similar anti-inflammatory) to help alleviate some of the discomfort. My dog went through this about six months ago when we were visiting my parents, and she got through it as easily as a cold.

If it persists, you may want to see if you can load her in the car (if you have one) and take her to a park or public area where she'll be more comfortable going on leash without having to walk around a whole lot.

Best of luck, rainbaby. I've known quite a few dogs that have undergone that procedure and they've all pulled through swimmingly. I'm sure yours will be no different.

Aaaaaaaand, we're back. Did I mention that, besides the six blocks, our elevator's broken, so that added a four story hike up and down to our little jaunt? Good times. But it's done, and now I and the puppy are off to bed. Good luck, rainbaby.

Heh. Reminds me of my dad, a professed hater of cats, up at 1 in the morning sawing through a frozen trout so he could fry it up for the cat who had not eaten since coming home from her spaying.

Wishing your pup well.

Thanks guys. She gets walks every morning, and she pees no problem, but it's too dark to get to the park and back except on the weekends, and that's where she likes to get her poo on.

It came to mind to get "deer scent" at Wal-Mart, and put it in the yard just to mess with her, but I don't think it's hunting season.
