Down In The Boondocks. Down In The Boondocks. Be sure to watch for the fancy footwork starting about 1:30. Eat your heart out Micheal Jackson! Recorded in 1965 by Billy Joe Royal.

By the time it hit the Brit pop charts[More:] it had been covered by Gregory Phillips with production and guitar by Jimmy Page and with a b-side instrumental by Page. Despite all that, the Billy Joe Royal version crushed Gregory's version.
I used to love that song as a kid, but I seem to recall his voice being a bit... deeper.

Very nice!

Later on, it seems he goes country and western... and again does something rather amazing. Be sure to watch for the riding of the bicycle at around 1:20; how he manages in those tight pants is a wonder. Eat your heart out, Tom Jones! :)
