Typecasting For the past six months I've been corresponding with someone I knew as a teenager (we worked together and went to the same high school). As I get to know him a little better, what I'm learning about his temperament reminds me of... me.

[More:]The list of common attributes might read something like this:

* introversion,
* low tolerance for frustration,
* something of a temper,
* prone to holding grudges,
* irritability,
* an inborn drive to create leading to self-chastisement when not regularly creating,
* snobbishness regarding artistic standards (though we're both excited by and quick to acknowledge what we do admire),
* a certain plasticity of intellect that makes us very susceptible and sensitive to our environments and outside influences such as close relationships,
* a very critical, sardonic view point , and of course...
* a high degree of smartassery.

What I'm wondering is, is this a recognizable character "type" or profile of something? Or could it just have been something in the water supply of the small town we're from?;-)
Nope, me too.

Wow. That sounds like me. Except I offset my artistic snobbishness with loving some stuff that true snobs would find vile.

I think it describes an awful lot of people. If you rewrote it a bit, it could be one of those astrology profiles.

I'm really hoping I haven't basically written a horoscope-like description that applies to everyone and his second cousin here! Seems to me this character type is not uncommon, but that it's by no means widespread.

Stuff like that shows up on personality inventories. I don't know enough about enough of them to say whose type of which inventory that would be.

Perhaps it was just my high degree of smartassery talking. :)

I could add hyperanalytical, and prone to making lists, but that would be my smartassery talking.

Is he prone to liking the color Orange?

We could have a smartass show down here, and it would only end in much random snark and senseless quips.

Also, every night there is a least one person who thinks of you before they go to sleep.

I hope not.

I've crossed out what doesn't apply to me:

* introversion, (I would bet that I'm the most introverted person frequenting Metachat)
* low tolerance for frustration,
* something of a temper, (but it doesn't rear it's ugly head very often)
* prone to holding grudges,
* irritability, (only when hungry or tired)
* an inborn drive to create leading to self-chastisement when not regularly creating,
* snobbishness regarding artistic standards (though we're both excited by and quick to acknowledge what we do admire),
* a certain plasticity of intellect that makes us very susceptible and sensitive to our environments and outside influences such as close relationships,
* a very critical, sardonic view point , and of course...
* a high degree of smartassery. (I think that's all the bunnies)

I'd say you're safe that it doesn't apply to everyone.

It's me it's me! I think you've just drawn up the metachat horoscope chart, we're all born under the bunny-moon!

Colour me drawn to people like me, I guess.

But I've thought about this list as applied to a number of my closest friends, and it always looks something like deborah's. Some matches - but not all of them.

Maybe it's why you picked them as friends.
