It's gone horribly wrong-- anything been off for you?[More:] What went off for me? Pork.
i was thinking of putting a slab of ham on toasted panettone and making some new sandwich idea and easy dinner. The ham had other plans, spotty plans that smelled funny in brilliant colors. i have thrown out more food in the last few months than i ever have. And it's been good stuff. When do we get food stasis fields? Are those ethylene absorbing bags any good? If i ever get my hands on a truffle, i will eat it straight away like an apple.
What else has gone awry, askew or strayed from the plan, man?
Radio Mats? That's so on!
Long time no hear.

You big tease.

Science Girl gets up and goes to work before I'm awake. Wednesday morning I found notes all over the kitchen, saying "DO NOT drink the milk!" There was about an eighth of a cup left in the carton, and it surely had gone bad.

I'm leaving the notes up, just because they're cute.

And for jeebus' sake, STAY AWAY FROM THE ETHYLENE ABSORBING BAGS! Do not be absorbed, please.

Hee. Why did Science Girl not throw the milk out? Is it still there?

I went to use some bacon the other day and oh my word was it green. Maybe it's just a bad month for pork.

There was a bag of chicken breasts in the fridge yesterday - I think they've been there for about a month, maybe more.

I threw them away with extreme prejudice.

Why did Science Girl not throw the milk out?

Well, that's the question isn't it? I'm not sure, aside from the fact that she hates wasting food. I gave it a burial at sea.

i'm not the type to be assimilated. i'm not the type wanted by hive minds.
Mats' has spoiled my expectations of soul food!

i use to leave little notes, clues and oddities in weird places for roommates. They were never as appreciated as i hoped. The Bees is awfully good at finding lost things and i find things she puts by the bed when i'm asleep particularly touching, like a specially selected toy.

Good googly mooglies, i've got to stop talking about my cat.
i sound like a crazy cat lady and we're both in mild withdrawal from bonding crisis time together.

Maybe it was for Science, since she's Science Girl?
Thanks for disposing of the cure for cancer.
Science is gonna be miffed.

Uh oh. Maybe she'll mutate me in my sleep...

Where can I get some bad milk on a Friday night?
posted by bmarkey 11 January | 20:11
I find that convenience stores are pretty good for that sort of thing.

Come raid my fridge. There's a whole carton of bad lactaid in there.
posted by ramix 11 January | 20:13
Covenience store! Great!

No, wait, it was organic milk - no hormones, grass fed, etc. Unless 7-11 has undergone some radical cahnges since I was last there, that's not gonna work.

She'd notice the lactaid, too. Shit. I'm doomed.

Quit smoking 08 has been a big flop.
Turns out that, not only am I flat out allergic to the patch (twofold- the adhesive bugged me as well as the latex it was made from), it also gave me a racing heart thing that, honestly, terrified me.
A coworker is on Chantix and has only been taking one a day, not two, so she gave me her extras until I can get to the doc. But I've been smoking again (albeit far less than before) in the meantime.

Or, if food, some yummy chinese leftovers I forgot about, and found much later. They had developed a furry winter coat. Oh well.

How about the magic gum? Or the orange juice substitution break? How did the tat heal?

I told my housesitterwaif that there were 5 freshly thawed chicken thighs in the fridge that he should feel free, nay, compelled to cook and eat. When I came home 9 days later, there were 2 left. Uncooked. I don't think he got the idea that he could cook them all and then eat them at will or refreeze them. Also, judging by the barely identifiable mass in my crisper, he doesn't like spinach. I'd hoped to be helping to feed the poor thing, but it was for naught, and now whatever eats the meat products I throw out into the bush is very very happy. Please let it not be rats.

Plans don't spoil so much as get postponed. The lunar new year (of the rat) isn't until February 7. It's good to get your guns ready for the new year, all cleaned and ready, then do the traditional do nothing: no cleaning, no going out, just being surrounded by what you need.

It doesn't mean you need to feed the rats, though. Rats always can do for themselves. That's the thing about rats.

I'm drinking and I got the hiccups. It's irritating when life becomes a cinematic cliche. I haven't felt like this since I was hanging out in a bar during fleet week and overheard two sailors talking about getting tattooed.

Stretch out as much as possible.
The fail safe cure is to have someone grip you Heimlich style and suspend you until your diaphram stops spasming. The problem is some people just want to be held.

i am smoking and drinking, but it is a rarity and i am tired.

We have a mouse. There weren't supposed to be mice.

I mean, at least it's not a rat or a roach, but it's a wee brown scurrying thing that might nibble on my toes when I sleep.

And we've STILL not unpacked, and my car has broken down no fewer than FOUR times in the last four weeks, and that is why I've been mostly AWOL.

Also, why does no one deliver food to my area? Why can I not find the products I regularly use at the stores around here? Why is Trader Joe's at Union Square so crowded that, if you risked buying frozen foods there, they'd be melted by the time they got to the register?
