I just took a bite of my tuna sandwich and bit down on a fish bone. What have you found in your food?
I find hair. A lot. And usually in commercially prepared food. Seriously, you have no idea how often I find a hair in my food. So often that I think the God(s) are playing with me.
i know people who have grifted freebies using my hairs.
i know places where they shrug.
Once at this really great sushi place, a giant roach was on the wall right above our table. i got our teeny tiny waitress and she let out a tiny "Oooh," slammed it with her bare hand like a blurred battering ram and walked away. It left a huge stain. We were too shocked to say anything.

Yikes. The same thing happened to me in a teeny tiny Italian place. I caught the hostess's eye, wiggled an eyebrow, and she discreetly dispatched the critter. We got free dessert and espressos... every time I returned to the restaurant for months. (Hell, yes, I went back --- it was good food, and the open kitchen looked immaculate.)
Things I've found in my food:
- hair, of course.
- a screw, once.
- nutshells in nut butter.
- a small coil of plastic wrap imbedded in a frozen spinach souffle.
A bit of metal in a Healthy Choice meal about five years ago. I don't eat that brand anymore, and try to avoid ConAgra.
I called, reported the batch number, etc. They sent me Heatly Choice coupons.
In case anyone is wondering, in cases like this there is no liability because there was no harm. I would have had to choke on it or have it lodge in my intestine or something.
The ol' Rat in a Can will get you pain and suffering, as well it should, but not a piece of metal. For that, you get coupons.
Found some small pieces of glass in some yoghurt once. They sent a rep over with cases of their other types of yoghurt--the ones I didn't like. I appreciated the gesture, though.
I sometimes find bits of bone in our favorite southern-cooking place's turkey and dressing. I chew carefully, so there's no harm, no foul. *(tries to think of joke involving fowl)*
