07 January 2008

It's 10pm in West Michigan on Jan 7. Temperature is currently 59 degrees, with gusting winds, torrential rain, lightning and thunder and we are under a flood warning and a tornado watch. I blame Al Gore.
Yep, it's Tornado Central here in SW MO. Sirens for the past 5 hours, multiple sightings, part of an elementary school gone.

We've had large, violent cells pass through already that were apparently just the warm-up for the biggie that should arrive in half an hour.

Today in Chicago we actually had sunshine and lolipops. I blame Leslie Gore.

So it's currently warmer in west Michigan than it is here near the Central California Coast (where the sun set almost three hours later). We had our torrential rains and near-hurricane force winds last Friday (causing the fall of a section of fence about 100 feet from my residence... but seriously, the fence had long looked like it wouldn't need too much wind to knock it over) and the follow-up storms so far have been underwhelming. Still, you shouldn't be too harsh on ol' Al... he gave you that Intarweb, he can always takeit away.

Mid 60's thunder storms and Tornado watch in south eastern MI, south western ON.

It's currently 62 in central indiana (with the windchill, 60.)

We had a tornado watch earlier and we're supposed to have storms tonight. I do not like it when it's 60 degrees in January.

Stepdaughter (who's doing just fine, yay!) called from the basement of the apartment building today, during a tornado in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Record High of 63 F in Kenosha this afternoon; the city hasn't seen a tornado east of the I in over 100 years. (Of course the I wasn't there 100 years ago, would it make you happy if I said Green Bay Road, instead?)

And... we are flying out to visit on Wednesday. Whee!!!

I'm glad to hear your stepdaughter is doing well, LP!

Here in Chicago several windows in the apartment are open as we're gleefully letting the fresh air in. Hope I don't freeze by morning. I was about to take a shower but then it started storming. I never got over being scared of thunder, so I guess I'll have to shower in the morning. Yuck.

As for responsibility for the weird weather, I myself would blame Jeff Jacoby of the Boston Globe whose "Br-r-r! Where did global warming go?" made him a superstar among the rightwingnuts. Loudmouths on both sides of the debate should have learned by now the First Rule of Predictive Meterology: The minute you say something definitive about the Climate, the Weather will make you look like an idiot.
