Who Needs Sleep? [Wired] " A nasal spray containing a naturally occurring brain hormone called orexin A reversed the effects of sleep deprivation in monkeys, allowing them to perform like well-rested monkeys on cognitive tests. "

Yay to reversing the effects of sleep dep!

Boo to the likely consequence that Atom touched on.

Umm... orexin is the body's natural "wake up" chemical. It builds up in sleep and then you wake up. It does not make you "less tired" nor does it replace the cognitive or homeostatic effects of a good night's sleep. Ok, maybe a good night's sleep, but only one. Not over the long term.
