Music to begin a new year: Philip Glass' Symphony No. 5 combines readings from sacred texts of most of the world's religions, to tell a story about the universe's creation, awakening, conflicts, and renewal. You can listen to and/or download the symphony here.[More:]
The music comes from two CDs so the track numbers repeat- use the Roman numerals if you are building a playlist. The twelve sections are:

I Before the Creation
II Creation of The Cosmos
III Creation of Sentient Beings
IV Creation of Human Beings
V Love and Joy
VI Evil and Ignorance
VII Suffering
VIII Compassion
IX Death
X Judgment and Apocalypse
XI Paradise
XII Dedication of Merit

You can also see some of the symphony being performed here, in what looks like a clip from German TV.
Thanks, BP! I think that I heard part of this in a car commercial once (I know...) but it really stuck in my head.

Glass is an amazing musical force. My memories of 9-11 are forever woven with his music, because I was glued to NPR all day, and they used some of his piano works as the musical interludes.
