State Senator Peralta gets his ghetto car carjacked 2 blocks from my apartment.ahem.→[More:]Judging my the comments, he real story seems to be that the senator drive a gas guzzling, red 2006 Dodge Charger with 22" rims on taxpayer money.
The sleazy neighbour got carjacked yesterday, but his car was recovered by the police this morning because it has one of those GPS tracking devices in it. This is the second time in six months it's been stolen, although the first time it hadn't really been stolen, it was taken by somebody he'd upset to teach him a lesson.
I'm definitely the poor relation in this little close where cars are concerned, and in the neighbourhood in general my car stands out for its cruditude. A ten-year-old battered up Ford Escort looks pretty unattractive to carjackers next to the Ferraris, Porsches, Beemers, Mercs and Hummers that are the vehicles of choice round here.
Minor point of car-guy pedantry: The image above is the badass-ified SRT-8 model, which sells for about $36K. The base model is more like $22K. I didn't see anything in the article about the trim level of the Charger.
No accounting for the 22s, though, unless the vehicle was a police seizure.
