28 December 2007

Photo Friday: Best of 2007
I think I really turned a corner in my photography this year, and it may have started with this shot from January:

I'm really excited about what I've been doing "in studio" lately as well, so I may update later with something from that.

This is the first decent photo I've ever taken - July or August, 2007:

This is the picture I like best out of the ones I've taken in the last year. Taken exactly as we came across him, a poor down-and-out wino teddy sleeping in a doorway in the West Village.

A repeat post, but probably the best shot of the year.

Best of 2007, eh? Hard to narrow down. I guess I'd have to say it was the skeleton. (Photo and accompanying story.)

I love that photo, danf.

This is definitely my favorite of 2007. (The pink color comes from a red-tinted flash.)

This is my favorite photo of the year. I'd never taken portraits before the weekend I took this shot. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good:

The above photo never made explore. The following is one that actually made it to like 28 in explore. It's one of my favorites of the year as well. For those with large monitors clicking on the image will take you to the large size edition.

rainbaby, I love that photo. Truly awesome.

BP, that's a cool trick with the flash, and a neat effect for the photo.

This is the one that won the kudos at Flickr - it's the only one I've ever taken that made it into Explore.

Then this is pretty cool.

It's hard to pick, but I think I like this one best. Nobody else seems to like it, but I do.

eekacat, those are my favorites of yours this year. The bug one is great, mgl!

How do you know if you're photo is in explore? Do you get an email or something? Or is that what happens when you get hundreds of views instead of the normal ratio of your contacts and friends?

explore is kind of weird. They have some algorithm they use to figure it out, and it's always changing. To see if you have any, or had any in explore go here and type in your flickr name. It's more of a curiosity than anything else. I don't find for my own photos that it's the ones that I think are good, or ones that get lots of comments, but just seems pretty hit and miss for me.

My favourite of the mostly mediocre (or worse) pictures I took this year:

eekacat - thanks so much for that link - I've always wanted to see if I had ever made it and now I know. Cheers.

I am really happy with my photography this past year, but would have to say this shot from the SF MoMA is my favorite.

I'm by no means any good at picture-taking, unlike some of the peeps here. But here's two pictures of mine that I thought looked cool:

Both taken while driving. The first was taken on my way home after dropping my dad off at BWI, as the sun was rising. The second, while I was driving to NY that same day to visit my college roommate.

My daughter putting up Christmas ornaments. Probably not the best of the year, but I was playing around with this one in ufraw tonight and I liked how it came out.

I'm fond of this one, which represents a lot of what I like about the Oregon coast.

I was also happy with how this one turned out of Mt Hood, but again, I think the beauty of both places wins out over any skill.

My goal for next year is to learn composition better and use a nicer camera :)

I'm never very good about choosing favorites of anything, but here's one that I took lately that I like a lot for some reason.

Wow - there's some great stuff here. I was feeling pretty good about some of my pictures until I started going through my Flickr to find some to post here and suddenly none of the seem bestish.

The best one that I could find in my collection was this one but it was actually taken by my wife. I can't recommend the Panasonic DMC-FX30 more, that little camera really makes great pictures easy.

Love that photo, octothorpe. There are some great photos in this thread. This is probably my favourite photo this year - well, there are some photos of my niece that are better, but my sister absolutely doesn't want them posted online. So:
