chatter about topics that may not belong on MetaFilter. Questions? Check the FAQ. Please note: This is important.

I am starting my New Years resolution early. Starting today, no more politics blogs. This alone will knock five pounds off me over the next year.
That's a good one but, sadly, that was already my resolution last year, when I realized that the runup to the US presidential election was going to torment us for longer than usual this time. I haven't looked at a political blog in 2007. No, I think this year I might have to start thinking about my financial health.
Metafilter was one of the easier ones for me to quit. I had already stopped reading most of the comments long long ago, and when I realized I was only clicking the link in only one post in fifty, skipping MeFi entirely was pretty much a natural.
For me, the same old arguments had grown stale even by 9/11, and then the online veterans moved to blogs. Now however the newbies are starting blogs and I feel like I am sitting in kindergarten all over again. One sentence refutation, yawn, parry, thrust.
As the bumper stickers say, "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention." Well, let's turn that on its ear! Are you outraged? Is your blood boiling? Are you sick of living this way? Well for fuck's sake STOP PAYING ATTENTION! Worrying yourself into an early grave wasn't helping anyone anyway.
My only indulgence in this area's my Sunday morning "talking heads," as jon refers to them. Namely, Meet the Press and McLaughlin (I know, I know -- I can't help myself). It's my weekly yell-at-the-TV hour (hour and a half).
Course, I was ground zero for the Gore/Bush fiasco lo the many years ago: Miami, FL. I stayed up all night, me and Dan Rather, hoping beyond hope, and watched the truck transport "chad" ballots up I-95, alla OJ's famous flee. How long ago it seems now.
NO NO NO! Bequeath all of your political blogs to MEEE! I haven't had anywhere near enough (haven't even really started). Please tell me ones that you read, especially if they cover the Dems.
Start at Rachel's Tavern and then hit her blog roll. They are about as left as one can get without drowning in mouth froth, although you should keep a towel handy. Also, they aren't always the most literate bunch in terms of grammar or spelling, which is sad because many of them hold PhDs.
