25 December 2007

This is even more disappointing than not getting a pony for Christmas. I thought they could at least have made an effort.

I know! Rubbish. And, to make matters worse they're calculating the date and time on the (apparently US-based) server and not the user's computer, so when it was midnight on the 25th in the UK it still said "no". FAIL.

What worries me about this is that it appears that at midnight on Christmas Eve you clicked this link to see if it was Christmas yet.

Well, you need to check these things out. Y'know, just to make sure. It gave me something to do before watching Charlie Brooker's review of the year.

That's strange, because they put some effort into localization - when I visit from a German IP address it tells me JA, but when I visit from a US IP, it says YES.

When I visit from Greece, it also says "JA". This must be because Greece starts with a "G" and so does "Germany" - 'cause ain't no Js in the Greece.

How do you say "Yes" in Canadian? And will it be the same in Camaroon, Cambodia, Chile, and China?

At midnight here on the East Coast, it said "No" (I checked).

Yep. I checked it at about 25 passed midnight and tried refreshing it a couple of times to no effect.

Well, here in Canada, it says "YES/OUI"

The RSS feed (!) says it's GMT-7. So we get 7 extra Christmas hours tonight.

ha! I saw the site had RSS but didn't think it worthwhile subscribing to. But yay for 7 extra hours!
