The flu? Awwww, you shouldn't have. [More:]Someone brought her recently-ill family to dinner at my uncle's the other night. Now we're all getting the flu. Xmas dinner was postponed (we were going to do it tonight), and I got to spend today shivering, achy, and unable to keep water down. Wooo. My uncle & his wife had it yesterday. Keep your highly contagious family away, lady. Especially away from a friggin' cancer patient. I just hope that a) I'm feeling better tomorrow, and b) my brother & his fiancee don't get it (they arrived last night).
Oh crap elizard, that sucks. People have no respect for the notion of quarantine these days. I hope you're all feeling better shortly.

I believe whiskey will help, elizard.

Join the club elizard......though mine is the upper respiratory kind. At least the deli will deliver soup.

What, sick for the holidays? Might I suggest some...HAM????? With SALT ON IT? In fact, why don't you just go take your ham out to the cowfields and roll it in a salt lick and serve it to me?

Failing this, try a toddy. I am just now recovering from a flu that took me out for a month - and I discovered the curative properties of the Irish Whiskey hot toddy. Lemon and cloves highly recommended.

Good grief that sucks, elizard. I recommend dvd's, hopefully at some point some tea or chicken broth, and life under a blankie. Get well soon dollink.

Too true goo (say that after five toddy's!) - I wonder why that is, we know so much more about germs now, wash your hands sneeze into napkins and quit spreading them people! I hope you get better soon elizard.

She brought someone with the flu to be around someone with cancer? Yikes.

I'm sorry you got sick. My food poisoning seems to be abating, but I'm still in a place where eating is not really all that enjoyable. Which should make cooking a huge meal for everyone this evening rather interesting...

Heh. Oddly, ej, this was the one time when I was pretty convinced alcohol would not make it better. Mint tea doesn't taste too bad the second time, but whiskey? Urgh. I wouldn't even take aspirin for fear of how long it would stay down. I may try a toddy later today, though.

Glad your food poisoning's abating, occhi--I was thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you were feeling.

I hear y'all on the quarantine, too. My sis (who's a doctor, and more to the point, an epidemiologist) was also at the dinner; I think Clan Typhoid Mary thought she was being a bitch for giving them crap for even being there. Let's see...you barely have high school, she has an MD and a Masters in precisely this subject. Who do you suppose knows a bit more about the spread of disease? But no, mama typhus had to argue about it. Gah. And yeah, my uncle's on a pretty harsh anti-cancer drug regime right now, waiting for surgery, so he's the last person who should be exposed to anything like this. Just when I think I can't be shocked by selfish stupidity, I'm proven wrong.

Thankfully I'm feeling a bit better today, though somewhat wobbly, and should be able to make our dinner tonight. Since everyone who'll be there has already been exposed, I won't be doing any harm. Unlike the Moron family, though, I have cancelled all other social plans for the next few days. For my friend's birthday tomorrow, I'm giving her the gift of good digestion. She's very thankful.

You'd think someone would just alter their plans if their family is sick. My aunt did just that - her son and daughter-in-law and grandson were expected over the weekend to her house, then on to the daughter-in-law's father's for a few days. But my aunt got sick, so they went to the father's house (he, too is a cancer patient and just underwent chemo) first, then to my aunts'. So as not to spread germs. Sheesh. If everyone did stuff like this, less of us would be sick. I hope you're feeling better, elizard. And I'm glad you're doing better, occiblu, too.

Oh yeah, and because I couldn't get to the store yesterday, I'm GONNA RUN OUT OF CIGARETTES! GODDAMNIT! DAMN YOU, YOU PESTILENTIAL XMAS SCOURGE! DAMN YOU TO HEEEELLLLLLLL!

...and my uncle just got an ambulance call (he's a paramedic, and on call today). So, as Mrs. Uncle put it, I guess someone else's xmas is sucking more than ours. *sigh* Bring on the rum!

Flu around people on anti-cancer drug treatments = beyond dumb. It's OK to throw people like that out, even on Xmas, you know.

You've got it in one, dabitch. I'm hoping that by going on this call he isn't spreading it further or knocking himself back, but I guess he couldn't get anyone to fill in on xmas day on zero notice.

Not sure if it's correlation or causation, but I took some pro-biotics once I was at the point of being able to eat again and since then I've been feeling much better. Though it does feel a bit like there's a war for my soul going on in my intestines.

And it all turned out fine. Ambulance call was sad, but not unexpected. Food was wonderful, we just took longer (much longer) to eat it. Naps were had by those of us needing them, presents were happily given & received, and I came home laden with (among other things) wine, stinky stinky cheese, and fabulous baking from my step-mum.

She sent the cheese to my brother via Greyhound, along with some for them and a bunch of other presents for everyone. The day it arrived, they got five messages from the depot, the last one being along the lines of, 'we have a package for you and IT STINKS! Please pick it up as soon as possible.' In the package was a big box with my name on it. After a couple of days, they started to wonder what that smell was, since their cheese was in the fridge. It was my cheese, still in the box, under their tree. Luckily it was all of varieties that can withstand this kind of treatment, and even improve with it. Hee hee.
