Christmas Miracle... my parents have invited my daughter AND son-in-law over for tomorrow (along with Grandbun of course.)

That is all.
Hooray for love!

Grandbun will win them over, just know it.

I'm glad to hear that. Racial bigotry, along with homophobia, are attitudes that have no place in the modern world.

Seconding exactly what essexjan said.
There is nothing like a baby for making someone drop their prejudices asap!

Well, this will be the first time they have met Carlton (my son-in-law.)

The baby has been over there serveral times. Beware the cuteness of the Grandbun! It's deadlier than the disapproval of a rabbit. (heh.)

What was so stunning is I had decided I was not going to be gobetween or anything like that. So when my dad (my DAD!) called me to tell them they could come, I was gobsmacked. First of all, usually he uses my mom for messages like that. Second of all, knowing his background, I know just how much he has had to overcome within himself to take this step. He promised me they would be nice to Carlton.

Oddly enough my dad had a black friend/acquaintance about his age who just passed away-his son stopped by their house to tell them. This particular son actually knows my daughter and Carlton. I wonder if that all had anything to do with it.

Over the years, watching as racial attitudes start to change amongst the older folks I know-sometimes at a glacial place, but still-I have a lot of hope. And if my dad can handle THIS, NOTHING is impossible.

Terrific news! It's about time they meet your son-in-law as a person, and not just a color.
