Oh, occhi. Just before christmas too! Can you keep anything down? Last time I was knocked out for two weeks with it - I hope you fare better and recup more swiftly than I!
Um, what I'm about to say as delicately as possible is still pretty gross, so you decide whether you want to read it.
If you do take charcoal tablets, remember that you took them. They will suffuse your belly contents will a hellish black tinge. The last time I took charcoal for nausea, I woke up a few hours later to be sick, and for the split second between the moment I threw up and the moment I remembered the charcoal, I thought quite somberly "Oh. I don't know what happened to me, but I'm dying."
I'm sending you hopes for a speedy recovery and a happy visit with family. Poor occhiblu.
When I feel icky, I find that the Tom Kha Gai soup is about the only thing edible. The galangal & ginger are soothing, the chicken broth is nourishing, and the richness of the coconut helps with feeling satiated.
Look for the packets of soup base at Safeway. Feel better soon!
Ghaaah. Well, at least it usually passes in 24 hours. The 24 hour flu (there is no such thing) is really food poisoning, usually salmonella (which is rampant) or even e-coli (which is also almost always present in meat.) Not that you got it from meat. Have you had anything with tomato sauce? Tomatoes go bad quickly and quietly and are tough to notice, especially in sauce. They're usually the culprit with me.
Anyway, hopefully you'll be fine within the usual 24. If not, I'd see a doctor. But you should be fine once it's all... gone.
Thanks all for the get-well wishes. I'm tired of sleeping, I get a headache if I stay on the computer or read for very long, but I feel slightly better, in the "I still feel like crap, but it's a slightly improved level of crap."
Grrrr.
I don't think I had any tomatoes. Ikkyu suggested it was the cantaloupe; he says salmonella grows on it very fast. Which he said he was going to tell me before I ordered it, but didn't want to sound bossy. Perhaps this is therefore punishment for my contrarian streak, because he's totally right, had he said something, I likely would have ignored him.
Which is doubly dumb, because I don't even really like cantaloupe all that much. It was just the only agua fresca they had. I find it very upsetting that I was the one person at the table who did not have tequila last night and I'm the only one who's sick! :-)
Blurg, how awful for you. Glad you're feeling a bit better.
Thanks for the link. My family always made fun of me for giving cantelopes a vigorous scrubbing with a vegetable brush and sudsy water before slicing them open, but now I'm vindicated!
When I got what was either food poisoning or Norwalk last year right after thanksgiving, the hellish headache was worse than the heaving. And the heaving was BAD.
I love cantaloupes, but they do develop a slimy film, don't they? Ugh. Well, at least you don't seem to be tossing it every 20 minutes. I've had food poisoning so bad that I laid in bed for hours trying to stay perfectly still in one comfortable position, because one tiny wrong move would make me chunder again. Very bad.
