I guess this is as good a place as any to note that I have one of those accents in which Mary, merry, and marry are entirely distinct. Anyone else?

I had a friend named Linda Mounts. She married Dave Quick. Before they even met, they both had wanted hyphenated married names, for egalitarian reasons.

Hilarity ensued.

If I were her, I'd change my middle name to "Fucking"

I had a friend named Tommy Window who married a lovely woman named Linda Payne and she opted for hyphenation.

*cannot find server*

gee the bunnies brok'd it :(

I have a mixed to indeterminate midwestern/NY/DC/TX/southern/hick/god-only-knows accent that apparently fails to differentiate. (tangent: the people here in Denvah frequently ask me if I'm from the Pac NW, the ONE region in the U.S. that I've never been to, don't know anybody from, and have no family ties to...WTeverlovin'F?).

the mister's Hartford CT boarding-school accent certainly *does* differentiate, which I find pretty hilarious (see also: Aaron/Erin). We've had entire little mini-sitcom scenes centred around regional dialect weirdness (yes, yes indeed, we are both just that easily amused).

Would you happen to have a friend named Aaron Gobra?

I had a friend, Teresa Williamson, who insisted on keeping her maiden name when she married Andrew Green. She said she wasn't going to go through life as "trees are green".

I also worked with a guy named Mike Hunt. One day the (female) senior partner was looking for him and came into our office. "Have you seen Mike Hunt?"

Hilarity ensued.

I really wanted my two friends with the last names of Curling and Dyck to hyphenate when they married, but they wouldn't, darnit!
