I just had the most delicious pear. But it was the only pear we had. Now I miss it.
But the thing with pears is that they have a five-minute window where they are either not too hard or not too mushy, and you have to eat them in that time. If you'd left the pear until today, it would have become overripe and tasteless.

I seem to remember Eddie Izzard riffing on this in one of his routines...
i was given three different kinds of pears i had forgotten about for a day or so, so when i found them the red ones threatened to succumb to gravity. But no, i ate them quickly and they were so juicy i stood over the sink to make sure any drops i missed went to join drops everywhere.
i couldn't stop myself and proceeded to eat the two green ones.
The brown one lasted two days more.
i wish i had a wealth of pears to experiment with but i'd probably just eat them.
Or make a pie.
Or roast them with--
Did i mention how much cake i still have to get rid of?
