That phrase, and all else "leet, |33+, l33t" etc. jumped the shark years ago. It was fresh in the 80s and very early 90s, but soured pretty quick. These young whippersnappers with their AOL Instant Messengers and their texting don't even know where the term came from.

I didn't know it was short for "elite" until reading that article.
