Squares I played four square with a buncha MeFites on Saturday, and it was pretty sweet.

It was much, much more honest than any game I was a part of as a child, and that left me feeling vaguely odd.

Four-square plus mefites? If you had been drinking root beer, I would say you had just about a perfect day.

We played four square as kids, yeah, but we were all competitive bastards, and thus were not above fudging line calls in our own favor. None of that seemed to be happening on Saturday.

And no, we had the closest thing you can get to real beer here in SC, some negro modello.

Four square was the one game in elementary school where I could transcend my deep uncoolness and unpopularity for a little while.

A lot of folks out here on the west coast have never played it, but everyone else seems to know it.

Never played it? Four Square was a staple of my early-90s childhood in the Bay Area.

A lot of people call it boxball. In New Jersey we called it Four-Square.
