Iconomy, you have blessed me! And I do mean beyond your usual awesomeness![More:]Your post inspired me to finally go to Value Village yesterday and get some sweaters (I'm still sorely lacking in winter gear since I moved up from FL).

So I found one nice black zip up sweater, pristine condition, totally work appropriate - six bucks. Gotta love thrift prices!

But the serious haul? New coat! I already have a cool vibrant blue wool coat, but I wanted a coat that is warmer, longer and slightly more generous in the arms (as the plus size coat manufacturers seems to think we're bunch of chubby T-Rexes). I had no hopes for finding anything since I never find coats in my size there. I was hoping to find something basic, and comfortable.

About two minutes into my search, I found a really awesome coat. I wore it around the store and by the time I found a mirror I was already in love with it, but it turns out it looks good, too. It doesn't hurt that all my friends oohed and ahhed last night when I wore it out, and are begging me to go to Value Village with them now.

I am having a hard time describing it, but it's black/gray herringbone wool, with cool rows of black buttons running up the cuffs and a button-over collar that has leather detail on the buttonholes. The sleeves are sort of puffy and cute, and it's nice and long. And it's really warm, and the lining is really thick and pretty. Yay!

Oh right, here's the best part. I have no idea where this coat came from, but it's essentially brand new and clearly good quality. And I paid 18 bucks!

A thousand whuffles to Ico the muse! <3
YES! You've been bitten by the thrifting bug, Sass. You've got a fever and the only prescription is more thrift shopping ;)

That coat sound totally cute and awesome. I have a thing for button-over collars. Yay for you! And thanks for my very first ever whuffles!

Really, your first whuffles? OMG. Was it good for you?

The thrifting bug has always been strong within me, I've just had to deny it as an impulse lately because I knew I was going to be moving and didn't want to be saddled with too much stuff I was going to have to put in boxes.

You've certainly reawakened a slumbering beast. But it's cool, because my apt is so tiny I can only fit so much in here. Oh, I also bought some weird 70s-style mugs with a woman's face on them. They're white, the woman is in shades of brown/orange and she's wearing a hideous hat. Awesome. Now I can actually have people over for coffee without one of us having to drink it out of a beer stein. Yes, really.

The best part of going to this particular thrift store is that on the walk home, I get to stop at the little shop where they sell delicious samosas 3 for $1.

Do you craft at all? I can tell you some really cool things to do with reclaimed sweaters! I have a couple of boxes full...I'm obsessed with making things. It's a sickness, for real. I should open an etsy shop someday. None of these are stuff I made, but this is the kind of stuff I would make from thrift shop sweaters: arm warmers, handbag, patchwork scarf, traveling owl family (cracks me up), baby leggings (made from sweater sleeves), a french press cozy.

You can't make coffee cups, but you can make cozies for them... ;P If you get a chance, take a photo your scores...I would love to see the mugs especially.

I've also seen some really beautiful quilts that are made from thrift store sweaters.

SCOOOOOOOOOORE!! Nice stuff, Sassy One!

And I find that they think we're a bunch of chubby chimpanzees - sleeves tend to be too long/big on me. Hm. Maybe I am a T-Rex. Rawr!
