"Golden Compass" is apparently kind of the Anti-Narnia, theologically. But I have no idea whether the "Personal Daemon Test" is true to the books or just something a New Line Pictures promotion guy ripped off a "What X Are You" site...

Interestingly, my Hare, the female Aurora is "humble, spontaneous, modest, solitary and inquisitive"... while gaspode's Hare, the male Aerodon is "Spontaneous, modest, humble, dependable and assertive".

And when I retook the test (because it lost the email I told it to send me with the downloadable junk), I varied from my previous answers enough to get Bryanna the Mouse Daemon, "modest, spontaneous, solitary, humble and fickle".

So what does it all mean? It means I wasted some time on the web finding out that the way I describe myself is spontaneous, modest, humble, solitary and something else. But will it sell tickets?

I did this a couple weeks back and got a fox. I don't remember its name.

This time I got Araphon the Snow Leopard: assertive, shy, modest, humble, and spontaneous. (I do not agree with the humble bit of that necessarily.)

I'm supposed to go see the movie with my Dad this weekend sometime. He's likely going to hate it.

Wendell, in the books the daemons match up with their people. This test is just good promotional bs for the movie but it does tie-in with the book.

Apollonius the ... ocelot. Everyone seems to be "modest." I don't know that I am actually modest, but whatever.

For a moment I was afraid I'd get a monkey. A golden monkey. (If you've read the books, you know this is a bad thing.) I suppose an ocelot is better ...

(although I would have preferred a bird.)

They are great. Well, the third less great, but the first two are excellent. I think you should read them.

I got Persaon, a solitary, responsible, modest (again), proud and inquisitive osprey.

I'm glad y'all are having fun with this. :-)

In the book souls are visible on the outside of your body and daemons are the external manifestation of one's soul. They're flexible while your still a child (can show up as several creatures according to your current emotional state) but become fixed as an adult. So, since I believe we're all adults here, you're stuck with what you got.

And while the osprey is beautiful I wanted a cat-type daemon. Not fair!
