Beard or No Beard? Help me, bunnies.
[More:]I started growing a moustache for MoVember, stopped shaving altogether a couple weeks later; it's kind of a Strike Beard like Conan and the Cool Kids are wearing. These hastily-taken pics show what I have 24 hours prior to an appointment with my regular doctor (who does also make a spot-check of my mental health at each meeting, so he's the first person I'm seeing whose opinion of the facial hair may affect me). Is he going to think I'm turning into (a) a hygiene-challenged hermit (b) old before my time or (c) Santa Claus? So... based on 5 weeks of mo growing and 3 of beard, is any or all of it worth keeping???

Also note that these pics were taken without a proper combing of the hair on top or even inclusion of my tragically removable front teeth.
I'll explain the stuff on the shelves behind me LATER.

I think the beard is nice!

I vote keep it. Round faces (like yours, and mine!) seem to work well with beards.

SANTA IS THAT YOU???

keep it

BEARD!

/me continues my crusade to have every metachat male sporting a beard before the year 2010.

Dye it blue.

eth, I was actually considering more of a Billy Connolly purple.

JUST KIDDING!

I'm also considering naming it... Katie Holmes.

HA!

So, I did the opposite thing and shaved mine off. Oops.

I'm pretty biased. I've been clean shaven exactly once in the past 11 years. Otherwise, it's been long sideburns, pork chops, or, since March of 2001, full on beard. Rock the beard, wendell. Rock it hard!

Maybe that's how we can tell the EuroBunnies from the USBunnies, chuck...

Just letting you know, if I do shave it off (which right now is not bloody likely), I will contribute the hair to the cleanup of the San Francisco Oil Spill. But don't bother with making a mat, I'll just clean out my Norelco while leaning over the rail on the Golden Gate Bridge. Yeah, that's ecologically responsible!

Another vote for keeping it.
posted by occhiblu 04 December | 20:31
Yeah keep it. If I were a dude there'd be no way I'd be able to keep up with all that shaving. Take the lazy way out!

Goatee.

EuroBunnies from the USBunnies, chuck...

I take a great amount of pleasure from being counted as a EuroBunny. Bless you for that.

Grow the fucker out until you look like Uncle Jesse.
posted by chuckdarwin 04 December | 20:52
chuck, you ARE talking about the Denver Pyle TV Uncle Jesse and not the Bad Movie Willie Nelson Uncle Jesse, aren't you?

Because the only thing scarier to me than ending up looking like one of those veteran character actors IS ending up looking like Willie.

And hey, the UK is still part of the EU, kinda sorta, right?

If you're thinking of shooting something soon, keep it until you do. And use that as your explanation, if your doc has any silly remarks.
posted by paulsc 04 December | 21:09
Let me make it perfectly clear that I do NOT intend to shoot ANYTHING soon, or later, for that matter; I know what kind of trouble you can get into for that kind of thing.
posted by wendell 04 December | 21:18
It's awesome - keep it.
posted by gaspode 04 December | 21:43
I say go out on a limb, shave half of it, the left half.
posted by jonmc 04 December | 22:23
Willie Nelson played Uncle Jesse in that movie? I had no idea. Also, I say keep the beard. Maybe trim the 'stache at some point, though. Maybe.

Goatee.
posted by eamondaly 04 December | 20:46

I think that is also something worth considering. But yeah, keep up with the beard.

Though I am biased, I am of the opinion that beards kick a considerable amount of ass.
posted by CitrusFreak12 04 December | 22:33
Keep it, but if I were you I'd run a comb thru my hair before going to that appointment.
posted by bunnyfire 04 December | 23:34
It's just flat-out wrong to shave a white beard in December. For real. Keep it. Also, digging the goatee suggestion. Or perhaps a van dyke (is that the one with the 'stache and the bits down the sides to a goatee? that's what I'm thinking of)
posted by kellydamnit 05 December | 00:00
Go with the beard!
posted by arse_hat 05 December | 01:03
Okay, the beard stays, the hair gets combed and the doc will love it when I walk in saying "Ho, ho, cough, ho!"

As for future goatee or van dyking, right now one of the pluses for me is the way it camouflages my multiple chins, so it stays fully neck-covering until at least Mid-January. Then I'll be back for BEARD POLL PART TWO!
posted by wendell 05 December | 01:21
It's winter, so keep it. The best thing I like about a beard is when I decide to get rid of it, I splurge for the royal shave at the barber: hot towels, skin tonic, straight razors, all the fun stuff.
posted by mischief 05 December | 01:51
Yeah, keep it. Is it the time of year, or what? Everyone seems to be either starting to shave or stopping. I'm already nervous about going totally hairless from the neck up in a few weeks, for the first time ever.
posted by dg 05 December | 03:07
Dear wendell,

This is what I looked like with a 'full beard'. I think I'm going to try and top it.

We should now have a beard contest.
posted by chuckdarwin 05 December | 13:07
Beard contest? I could probably go for some of that.

Can we also have a bear contest, a bea contest, a be contest and a b contest? I'm not sure what those would actually consist of.
posted by box 05 December | 13:13
Ooh, also a beer contest.
posted by box 05 December | 13:41
I require at least a month's head start on any beard contest, yes, the moustache must be trimmed (although it can be useful sometimes brushing the excess sesame seeds off of buns), and speaking of which, I'm also open to a bread contest, a board contest, a bead contest, a bard contest and a brad contest.

In respect to the women of MetaChat, no broad contest or bra contest unless YOU suggest it.
