The Replacements Live at Fitzgerald’s, Houston, TX , 8/1/83 This is Part One. Since today has been a little nutty, I won't be able to post Part Two until after I get home from work tonight. [More:] Also: I haven't been able to listen to it all the way through, so I make no claims as to the quality of the sound or the performance. The part I've heard sounds pretty good; given that it's the Placemats, tough, it could certainly go south in a hurry. Caveat downloader.
All my downloads are ssslow these days, but on the upside, i have made the Motherloaf:
basically like a turkey or mushroom loaf made mostly of vegetables and topped with tomatoes and some special organic ketchup, in the biggest pan i own.

Chicken stewishness simmers in the slow cooker-- i shouldn't have to cook again until Christmas.

That sounds good. I'm having some leftover Chicken Provencal that Science Girl made last night.

We keep meaning to dust ours off and get it going again, but we always seem to forget. This weekend, for sure.

I make vegetable broth in my crock pot. Cabbage and onion and carrot and whatever else. Makes for a nice broth that tastes yummy, and is a good snack.

Thanks for posting this. I never saw them live, so it'll be great. Video rarely catches the actual liveness of a concert, but this will work for me. This was back when I first started to like them. YAY for college radio!

EEK it's audio, sorry. I'll like it anyways. Pretty decent quality too I must say.

Yeah, I was always either working the night they were playing or broke (and often both), so I never got to see 'em either. Sorry about the lack of video, though. :) How about this?

Here's something you might not have heard. It's a medley of songs including 2 of my favorite bands and a guitarist I really like. Starts off with Garth Hudson, then NRBQ follows with "Whistle While You Work", then Betty Carter is no slouch with "I'm Wishin", then the part that fits in here, the Replacements doing "Cruella DeVille". It ends up with Bill Frisell with "Dumbo and Timothy".

It's from Stay Awake, which I think is a great CD with some of my favorite musicians on it.

Thanks, eekacat, I'll download that when I get home tonight. That's one of those albums that I know in the back of my mind I want to pick up, but I always get distracted while I'm in the shop.

Oops, I sent it in itunes format. Hope that doesn't put a spanner in the works.

If I recall correctly, those generally won't work for anyone other than the person who bought them. I appreciate the thought, though.

Oh, they're itunes format from my own CD, there are no DRM bullshit thingies on it. Not bought from Apple but rather loaded to itunes directly from the CD. I just didn't load it using exact audio copy which I normally do for music I like. I got lazy and started cramming CDs into the computer. I need to get everything on a hard drive in a good format. I'm too lazy, and I like beer way too much. mmmmm beeer.

Oh, OK. I'll just throw it into iTunes and everything should be hunky-dory then.

Oh, goddamn dial-up to hell and back. You inspired me to put the 'mats on, and now I'd give my left something-or-other to have this recording. *sigh*

(Also, crock pots are teh bomb. Yes.)

Weird, i was just thinking about that Cruella DeVille the other day.

And now everything smells like chicken, and probably will forever.

elizard: send me a mailing address and I'll burn you a copy.

Heh, elizard, I was just listening to "Stink", my first Replacements album, which I had on vinyl at one point, but it's gone now. I only have the CD. Man, how cool I could have been with a vinyl version bought in '83 or '84. I must have lost it when I was a dope smoking moron.

bmarkey: Really? woo! I kees you.

eek: heh. I've gotten rid of so much of the vinyl, and lost much of the good stuff when I was an acid-popping moron.
