Later... Did any of you British bunnies catch it? It was great to see Béla Fleck on the telly... I'm not sure how he did it, but he's actually improved (he went from spectacular to godlike). I also loved Stephanie Dosen's song This Joy. [More:]I'd never really heard much of Josh Ritter's stuff, and his songs did not disappoint (what a lyricist!). Larry Harlow's Latin Legends of Fania were fantastic and The Who played in a BBC studio for the first time since 1981. They don't really do it for me anymore (sorry, everyone), but the interview was great.
I saw Bela Fleck in person about a decade ago, he truly is something else. If you like Larry Harlow (he's a story in and of himself) and Co, a lot of the Fania stuff from the 70's has been beuatifully repackaged and released. At my last job I got to see and hear a lot of it pre-release. I heartily reccomend Ray Barretto.

Although that clip of Josh Ritter is kinda so so, he puts on a great show. He's a real nice guy too.

jonmc, I actually LOVED the Fania bits... they were just so fun (despite my pitiful lack of Spanish).

chillmost, I really wanted Josh Ritter to be more proud of his voice... they had another guy doubling him and it was ANNOYING.

Yeah, he's got a funny voice. So do most songwriters of his stature (I'm not going to link to the recent Dylan/Young/Thompson thread). As someone said to me here recently: OWN IT. OK, it's a little out-of-tune and odd, but it's YOUR VOICE.

He seemed shy about singing :-(
