Can you recommend any good audiobooks? Can you suggest an audiobook or two for a gift for my FIL? He's 78, and he likes anything having to do with Italy or da mob, travel, comedy, history, biographies. I was thinking The Godfather but he's read it several times, so probably not, although that gives you an idea of something he likes.
Steve Martin's autobiography, Born Standing Up, is just out on audiobook. He may like that.

If he's into this kind of thing, David Sedaris reads his own books for the audio versions, and they're considered to be quite good. Bill Bryson does a lot of his own narrating, too. Also, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, among other political figures, have read the audiobook versions of their books.

One more: Steven Schirripa, among other things a bit player on The Sopranos, narrates the audio version of his A Goomba's Guide to Life. I think this kind of thing is cheesy as hell, but some folks seem to dig it.

My mom is an Italophile, and I got her City of Fallen Angels, which seemed to go over well. Don't know if it's audio'd yet.

I am getting my mom the audiobook of Water for Elephants for Christmas.

Got my semi-closeted sister an Ellen Degeneres audiobook last christmas. It was not commented upon.
