Thanks everyone! As always, I had to celebrate it in tandem with my niece and nephew, who showed up this lucky day in 1988. They chose Ella's Deli in Madison, because they're, well, emotionally still pretty young. My nephew did have a girlfriend along, though.
We actually drove past two of the Octopus Car Wash signs, although not the one in Sil's photo, by chance. We also scouted out the area around Madison Area Technical College, which is where my nephew's girlfriend plans to transfer to pursue a Vet Tech degree. Even though she grew up in Janesville she had never once been to Madison -- the nearest big city.
The only downside of this is that I'm battling an early-season cold, and my dad's night driving is becoming concerningly erratic, so I had to take over when we couldn't find the restaurant the first time.
My cat Fry got a treat, of course, which was some wet food that came with his dry food as a bonus. I feed him some about every week or so, but unlike the stuff I buy, this one drove him crazy. He went into the wastebasket to get the discarded can and into my dishes to get the fork I'd scooped it out with.
Freezing, no, it really wasn't that awful. We now have slushy snow and ice everywhere, though, which is.
