30 November 2007

three-point update + bonus weekend forecast report [More:]

1) Work has been a bizarre combination of incredibly interesting and a complete Dilbert-esque parade of fools. The people I'm working with in my team are great. The project managers, however, collectively need a swift whack upside the head with the Sparkley Clue Stick of Doom.

2) I got FREE BEER at an office party last night. FREE BEER! Oh and excellent, yummy FREE FOOD, too! Not even sure why I qualified for the invite list (ima lowly contractor), but anyway... FREE BEER!!!

3) I FOUND MY SKI GLOVES!!!!!111 They have been missing for what-seems-like-ever. Did one of you bunnies invoke the Ski Glove Fairy to rescue me? If so, I owe you bigtime, because I serendipitously found them this morning, without even looking, in a place I'd looked at least, oh, sixty-eleven times before. So yeah, it was magic... or perhaps a Lost Glove Wormhole Reversal of SCIENCE!! (context: it was 13 degrees out this AM and I was SO NOT looking forward to riding to work without the big ammo)

BONUS WEEKEND UPDATE: Tonight I will go drink beer and put up drywall with a good friend of ours who's engaged in a massive home improvement project. FREE BEER 2 nights in a row?! It doesn't get any better than that!! After this, the mister and I plan to hibernate, as the weather is forecast to be disgusting.
1. I'm going to have pizza for lunch. Pizza pizza pizza! i can't wait! I'm so hungreeeeee! Pizza!

2. I've been offered an interview less than 24 hours after submitting my resume. I rock. Now, if the company I really want to work for will call...

3. PIZZA

Bonus: Birthday weekend!

woo Specklet that is AWESOME!!! Happy Birthday!

I have everything crossed on behalf of your job search. Shall I also loan you my Sparkley Clue Stick of Doom for your unholy, clueless (current) boss? Think of it as a going-away gift :)

1. I have heartburn and I don't like it.
2. The Boyfriend is home sick today, lying in bed and snoring away. Sounds like a mountain lion or something, to be honest.
3. Am waiting for two very important checks which are supposedly "in the mail." Haven't anticipated mail so much since I was a kid ordering weirdo crap from Oriental Trading Company, or maybe a college kid awaiting care packages from home.

Bonus weekend update: Think I might be signing a lease tomorrow (keep your fingers and toes crossed!) and then I've got yoga and yoga and more yoga. All sorts of yoga!

Happy pre-birthday, Specklet!

1. I have lost 6lbs since I got back from NYC a month ago. Woo.

2. I've remember to take my vitamins and supplements every day this week, and feel much better for it.

3. There were baby guineas and bunnies in the pet shop today, and one gorgeous ginger kitten. I bought some wild bird food with dried mealworms, and the bird table was mobbed within minutes of the food being put out. I love feeding the birds.

Plans for the weekend rather depend on whether the hurricane-force winds that have been forecast reach the south-east of England.

1. Still writing fucking job applications. Who wants to hear about my philosophy of teaching and my opinions on role of didactic vs problem-based learning? Anyone? I THOUGHT NOT.

2. Very good friend is down from Montreal for the weekend! Hooray!

3. I really wish I were applying for a fucking job, come to think of it.

Weekend plans? A long run tomorrow, shopping with my friend for new running shoes, lots of food and a little bit of beer.

1: The twat opposite me at work keeps breaking out the air drums when I'm trying to concentrate. Damn open plan offices. Damn arsehole twat.

2: Three Christmas dinners in three consecutive days next week: London, Paris (in the Eiffel Tower!), nice local venue.

3: My TV signal is borked and I'm going to miss the only TV programme in the week that I actually want to watch.

Bonus: Firefox's dictionary now knows the word "twat".

1. tattoo terror
2. art gallery opening tonight. the show features, ironically, my tattoo artist. Goal:stay sober, do not hit on him.
3. need to xmas shop.

Weekend: we're supposed to get our first winter storm. I have blankets hot cocoa and a cat. I am prepared.

1. I got out of having to go away for Christmas! Yay!
2. My upper body muscles are sore from working out yesterday.
3. I bought a Bobby Goldsboro CD at Goodwill today. Yes, I am an old lady, and have been all my life.

Weekend: I am still engaged in digitizing an old radio show from cassettes and figuring out how to get rid of the background hum. I also think I might go to a Christmas music concert.

1: Just got a Row B ticket to see the wonderful Mindy Smith in London in January
2: Caused minor bitch-fest at work by refusing to take part in this year's secret Santa crapola.
3: SPECKLET'S BIRFDAY WEEKEND!

1. Working tomorrow but it's the annual craft fair I organize so that's okay, might even be kinda fun.

2. Taking friend out for dinner with group of other friends because she is going to Australia next week to meet guy she met on internet, whooo! This is "Hope Ya Don't Get Axe Murdered" dinner. Hee.

3. May not see my guy for another week or, gods help me, possibly/probably two. Stupid jobs and stupid 230 miles. I am lonely even though I acknowledge the ridiculousness of this after 7 years spent mostly single. Long distance relationships are not so much fun really. Damn.

I just need to chime in here, although it's no shame being single, I am glad there is a "my guy" in your life.

Plus, new love is SO much fun, before all the shit kicks in.

1. Someone in my life had sad news which I am not free to repeat. Not talking about it is hard but understandable.

2. My house is still a wreck and the pita bread I made is more like pita brick.

3. I too have a birthday in a couple of days but all I can think of is it starts the countdown to being fifty. One whole year of looking forward to FIFTY when I feel, at the most, 25. Quick, hide the mirrors!
posted by bunnyfire 30 November | 17:29
1. Spent the morning and afternoon burning bootlegs for the guy who loaned me a bunch of his own so I could rip them.

2. Consequently, there was no time for napping. I am a fool, because

3. I have to leave for work in five minutes.

Weekend forecast - there was talk of hitting some Punk Rock Flea Market tomorrow, but given that it's supposed to snow... I kinda doubt it. Other than that, no plans (that I'm aware of).

Happy Pre-Birthdays to Specklet and bunnyfire!!

1. Mr. V had his bone scan today. Hopefully the last test before surgery.

2. I think my cold is getting better. At least I feel much better.

3. Work tomorrow will be busy, as any indication of bad weather sends locals in a panic. Silly people.

Weekend plans: Our nephews' second birthday party! Oh, and one of those Tastefully Simple home parties. They have good stuff, so it should be fun.

thanks, danf!! It really is awesome and I really am happy and, well, it just goes to show what can happen in your life that you never ever expected or planned for or thought might. Yay! FYinterested bunnies I am suddenly dating again a guy I dated & broke up with twice before - about 20 years ago. And it's a lot better now that we've gotten all our early 20s sturm und drang angst crap out of our systems.

I'm so happy for you, mgl. You deserve love.

1. Very happy for mgl and Specklet and bunnyfire. wheee!

2. Back from the farm with eggs and home-cured bacon and pork roast and free-range grain-fed ground cow and 3 (3!) different jars of my friend's amazing preserves and lots of photos of her and my honorary nephew (her son) and the farm and stuff. Some involving drinking, which I may have to edit. I think I broke her the night before last. Heh. At least we nixed a drunken 'Let's go see the horses!' midnight stroll. We must be growing up.

3. Bummed that I missed messages (email and voicemail back & forth) with my old old friend from TO who's in Vancouver tonight, but I couldn't have stayed in town anyway because:

Weather forecast: 60% chance of snow tonight (I saw some flurries earlier, even) and 80% chance of 'Snow and/or rain', so a good thing I'm home. Took ages to warm up the cabin, and bad weather means possibly not being able to get home tomorrow, possible power outage(s) that I should be here to flip switches and monitor the pump for, definite frozen cabin leading to very unhappy cold cats and possible burst pipes leading to no friggin' water for possibly days. (I had someone here taking care of everything, but he left for the Big Shitty City tonight.)

1.I have found out that the family event to which it was considered that I would not be invited is my aunt (who doesn't get along with chupahija) and uncle's (daddy's brother) silver anniversary. I will only attend if it's made clear to my brother that he not behave like a smug little prick towards me. I am not the only one who has caused problems in this family.

2.Someone should tell the new owner of the penthouse that if he is not going to include ALL of his new neighbors at his holiday party, the specific invitation(s) should be made privately and not stuck in the open cubbies of the only people he thinks matters: the man who used to own the building et al. No, I didn't open it, but I could tell what it was.

3 Small press bookfair tomorrow which includes a reading by Tama Janowitz.

Brina, calcium supplements help the heartburn--my chiropractor in LA told me calcium citrate is best.
