30 November 2007

Breaking (scary) news CNN link, whatever. Someone walked into a Hillary 08 office with a bomb and took hostages!
I don't give a shit WHO you support, but how DARE someone try and use violence to subvert the process!
What the hell.

Not to be cynical or anything, but how long do you think it will be before bloggers and/or pundits insinuate that this is a publicity ploy intended to make her look more sympathetic?

Seriously fucked up.

... and in other breaking news, two trains have collided in Chicago, one of them being an Amtrak train full of passengers with a bunch of injuries.

I just turned on CNN expecting to hear pundits, etc. talking about the hostage situation, and instead they're talking about the Amtrak thing.

If she does get the nomination (and I am voting for her. there, I said it) I shudder to think what the Rove Wing of the Republican Party have waiting up their sleeve, to Swift Boat her. I mean, I am sure they have stuff all ready.

Someone on another forum I read said her boss just made a comment implying just that...

Holy Shit. That Amtrak train was the one that goes through downtown Grand Rapids every morning just as I'm getting to work. I saw it this morning.

It doesn't really mean anything, but it's still a tad creepy.

Wow deadcow, close to home.

Both news stories are terrifying!

Oh, and it just occurred to me that, at least in the past, baby_balrog rode that train pretty regularly. I hope he's all right.

Meanwhile, in parents' basements all across the nation, tiny light bulbs are going off above the Pomade-slicked heads of a thousand-strong Ron Paul apostles.

It looks like the hostages are all free.
he's still in there, though.

I don't think we're going to see anything serious, because the Rove wing don't want to win this election. They're going to throw it, and let the Dems clean up the mess that 8 years of Bush have created. They certainly don't want to be at the helm in this economy and with this unwinnable war. The New American Century types that are represented in today's White House don't even have a dog in this race.

I sorta hope you are right. I fear that they see more left to plunder, and the potential to further line their pockets on the backs of increased national debt and accelerated exhaustion of our natural resources.

Miko, who do you feel is most qualified to clean up the Bush Administration messes?

Just curious.

Fox News (and the Hiffington Post) has been refering to the hostage taker all afternoon as Troy Stanley, "a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic who has not been taking his meds."

The AP, and MSNBC say that the suspect is actually Leland Eisenberg.

Democrat, Republican, unmanaged mental illness could give a rat's ass who is campaigning. It's just the pretense of what is happening. It is only what's apparent. Of course, the pretense is as far as the reporting will go and so all the insane myths about mental illness will be justified. It makes me scared to let anyone know I'm on meds. And I'd bet a month of them that this won't have one tick of a positive effect on the failure of our medical system to properly serve people in real need. Hopefully Clinton can find a way to use this to argue further for universal care without coming off like a political nvolture.

Situation over. I love how Fox (and Huffington Post quoting Fox) originally got the suspect's name wrong. Huffington Post has now scrapped their reference to Troy Stanley (although the tag still lives). Their homepage currently says "Fox News Reports Leeland Eisenberg Of Somersworth, NH Is Alleged Suspect…Has A Variety Of Names..." We'll see if that pans out, or if they jumped the gun on reporting a wrong name.

That would play about as well as the Paul Wellstone funeral oration.

A couple weeks ago a friend and I were watching more of the Democratic "debates" and he said, "You know, if she wins, I hope she has a Popemobile to ride around in, because a lot of people really, really hate Hilary. I give it 6 weeks into her first term before somebody tries to kill her." And I kind of laughed it off at the time but now that this has happened, god help me, I think he's right and it breaks my heart for any number of reasons.

And if Clinton wins they'll still get their war in Iran. Bonus!

Yeah, no kidding, when I logged onto ABCNews.com the three comments displayed for the story were all of this ilk. At least one had the grace to only say that she would likely use the situation to make herself look good.

To my surprise (unless she's erased certain updates), Malkin didn't begin playing the "Is Troy Stanley Lee Eisenberg an Islamofascist sympathizer?" card from the get-go. She did, however, use the occasion to smack the left for calling her a stalker, in the process basically admitting that her "reporting" largely consists of sitting on her ass using Google.

I'm not enthusiastic about any of the Dems this time. I guess I'll do what I did in 2000--If I can, vote for a Green candidate in the primary (I chose the guy running against Nader)-- they haven't yet chosen a candidate(s)--if not abstain, then in November vote for whoever the Dems picked at the convention.
