Yankee Magazine Cookie Primary A friend of mine is an editor at Yankee Magazine, and she sent me this link because it seems that no one but the Ron Paul army have been voting.
I'm not 'getting' the whole Ron Paul thing. I'm guessing that all his support is coming from the online Libertarian wingnut types (who don't have much pull in meatspace).

I just googled him (something I've been putting off for months) and I already can't stand the guy.

A. He's from Texas
B. He's a Baptist
C. He's Pro-Life and seeks to overturn Roe V Wade
D. He opposes all gun control
E. There doesn't need to be an E. This dude is a fucking dick.

Why all the press? Because he says shocking things? He's basically Rush Limbaugh in a Congressman's clothes.

chuckdarwin: I agree with you. I think most people don't do the research you just did and hear the word "libertarian" and think "oh, he's for smaller government and less governmental intrusion on people's lives." But in fact he seems to be more of a lowercase libertarian than an uppercase Libertarian. Often, people think the term libertarian means "Republican without the religious stuff." This is obviously not the case.

Yeah, I've seen this in other online polls recently - the Ron Paul supporters really seem to know how to clear cache, release IP, and re-vote.

I've voted for Libertarian candidates before, but sir, Ron Paul is no Badnarik.

Disclaimer: I am not a Libertarian, having lost all faith in the ability of groups to demonstrate basic human compassion.

oooh terrapin. Can your friend give me a job?

But seriously: Yankee is a publication I would love to be published in one day. I grew up reading it and developed a really positive feeling for the magazine. The format change really jarred me, but it's all right - the features I missed the most had already gone by the way (Earl Proulx, the Swop, the poetry page, etc.)

Now, to vote.

As an aside, the Republican YouTube debate last night seems pretty bizarre. The attempted badassery by the gun guy, the aggro edge...yeesh.

Also...it seems so innocently naive to think that people are actually capable of just voting for the best cookie. There's no way to depoliticize the election...not even with cookies.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I recognize those Oatmeal-Raisinists.

It's pretty cool to see biscochitos on the list, though.

I'll echo Miko and say that I miss the old Yankee magazine, especially the long investigative articles and the Swop column. I always dreamed of finding some ancient trinket in my attic that the master quilter or the person letting the Irish cottage wanted.

However, I like cookies.

Um, Barack lists a cobbler. A cobbler is not a cookie.

I voted for him anyway because it's the only contest he's likely to win :-(

I voted for Richardson. I think the man knows how to eat.

That gingerbread sounds pretty okay, but who the hell is Hugh Cort?

Is it wrong I saw the no-bakes under McCain and my first thought was "good lord, the man was in a POW camp, at least give him a warm cookie!!"

Then I realized my mom makes the same things, and they're pretty good.
Also, is this the same cookie listed under Hillary as it was when Bill ran? I think it is, and I remember making them and finding them tasty.

The 1992 Hillary and Barbara Bush cookie recipes were chocolate-chip, if I remember correctly.

McCain's no-bake cookies should include 3 tbs. of peanut butter, as well, with a little less butter.

At least, that's how I make them, and they're freaking delicious.
